I hate to resurrect this dead thread but I have to ask... are we sure we are in the Seventh Astral Era? When we were teleported away from Bahamut's devestation, were we sent thousands of years into the future or a few years? When you say we are in the Seventh Umbral Era, what is that based on?

There's been conflicting information at various times from SE. The only thing we're sure about is that it's 5 years from 1572 Sixth Astral Era. Old forum posts from the development team referred to this as the Seventh Astral Era, saying that Umbral Eras last however long the calamity lasted, which can be anywhere between months and hundreds (if not thousands) of years. However, it seems a little anti-climactic to say that the Umbral Era lasted as long as Bahamut was free and then have us battling all sorts of danger in the Seventh Astral Era, so I think this was an early error on SE's part.

In the beta, we're told that we're 5 years into the Seventh Umbral Era, which makes more sense, philosophically, so let's go with that. Also, I wouldn't worry about resurrecting this thread in particular - I don't imagine Noloe's going to abandon it.

Yeah as Moose said it was more of an assumption that when we returned to Eorzea from our 'slumber' that it would be some year in the Seventh Astral Era, but as someone stated in another thread and with the Beta story line it's actually as Moose said the 5th year of the 7U.E.

But yes I plan on continuing the thread, I have a few things already to add but I'm waiting for Phase 4 just in case they were placeholders.

It could well be possible that ending the main story quest brings us out of the Umbral Era into a new Astral Era, so the current 'snapshot' of time we're playing in is both, depending on who your character is and how far they've progressed.

That's what I'm thinking too, maybe when people finally "awaken" and realize who we are and are able to remember us completely it can be considered the Seventh Astral Era because we were not killed and are back and ready as ever. Along with people gaining their memory, maybe that means things have "healed" if memories are indeed aether based as I've theorized.

There's a pretty good chance this is being over-thought. I assume the Astral Era will begin when the aether is back in balance. That means the primals stop appearing, voidsent stop invading the realm, the Crystal stops recruting people to her aid (and might even diffuse back into the stream), and, most importantly, the Ascians officially lose. This is the seventh umbral era - if the seven hells taught us anything, the six that come before might be pretty bad, but once all the elements are represented, all that's left is oblivion. When the Ascians lose this time, it's for good. Hell, even if it wasn't, there's still no reason to call anything before the dust settles an Astral Era.

The fifth Astral Era did not begin until the discovery of magic brought society out of the ruins. This could be equated to a sense of hope being established amongst the entire population.

Eorzea doesn't seem to have that sense of hope in their recovery yet.

Personally I don't think they ever will be able to remember us. The whole "we can't remember the heroes, but man are you familiar" is just a way for the devs to tip their hats to those of us who played the original without making us more important to the storyline than the new people. We'll always be the new set of heroes to everyone but the few who really do remember us.

I know =( it's mostly a wish to be completely different. Ultimately I'm fine with that, I just REALLY want to know about what happened to Warburton and Corguevais with the Ul'dah storyline.
