Keeper of the Moon surname clarification?

In the naming convention posting, four examples are given for surnames that are passed down: Nbolo, Jinjahl, Jaab, and Epocan.

Beyond that, though, there doesn't seem to be any information on them. How many families exist? Are there any naming conventions for them?

Any more information on these would be great.

    Thanks for the question Inaaca!

There are many Keeper of the Moon family names that have been passed down through the generations.
The ones you see in-game (thank you for compiling that list aviha!) represent some of the more prominent families that once crossed the frozen seas into Eorzea in search for prey. That does not mean that these are all the names available. There are some families who have chosen to live more secluded lives, and simply have not made an appearance in-game yet. There are also the families who remained in their homeland, or emigrated to lands other than Eorzea.

So, when creating a character, you are free to take the surname of an existing family, and inherit their history, or choose a yet-to-be-released surname, and build a new history.

What about for first names ending in 'a', what would the first son be called?

    The examples given :
    - Gota Jaab
    - Sizha Epocan

Would the first son be :
    - Gota'a Jaab
    - Sizha'a Epocan

    or

    - Got'a Jaab
    - Sizh'a Epocan

Or maybe does the apostrophe just go after the name, like

    - Gota' Jaab
    - Sizha' Epocan

So, if these prominent families have histories, will we get to hear about them~? How could I possibly follow a family line if I have no idea about how they live? Maybe they are more magic-inclined Keepers. Or maybe they are rough and hostile towards other clans or races. This Moon Cat must know, Ferne! :3

As always, thank you for your continued service on the boards. We of the forums truly think you devs listen to us and are working tirelessly to make ARR a great game! Keep up the good work!

So really all that matters for a male Keeper of the Moon is adding the suffix at the end of the first name to designate which son we were and picking an existing surname from the game (or making a new one up).

Can we get more guidelines for making up a surname? I felt like the KoM males are lacking a bit in what you've given us compared to Seekers of the Sun. :P

Given the list above, I submit that the most important guideline for making up a surname should be the following:

"Often strangely-spelled and difficult to pronounce."

If you're having difficulty coming up with something, I might suggest allowing an actual kitty to assist you. Just toss it on the keyboard and see where it goes from there.
