Specifically, what is the lore explaining why they were all but a myth in 1.0?
Same thing with female Highlanders and female Roegadyn.
It's a secret, but will be well-revealed in ARR.

Being catlike, they were taking a massive nap. Dalamud crashing woke them up.
They got bored being stay-at-home dads.
Actually, something similar. I envisioned them, through screen shots and Fern's lore bombs about them, that they're actually much like adult male lions in real life. Only one breeding male in the tribe, a sauntering, threatening disposition, and makin' dem females do all the work! :P
Of course, with the world ending, they might have seen a need to get off their lazy butts and do something...You know, to help mankind rebuild or something dumb like that. Haha
Well, it was always stated even at the original launch of 1.0 that male miqo'te were very independent and antisocial, so they just 'remained out of sight' of greater civilization, prefering to lead 'solitary lifestyles' (that last point was taken directly from my 1.0 CE's manual).
I guess though with Dalamud's impact and everything, kind of changed all that, as Wolfda just mentioned.![]()
Can't remember where I heard it, but I thought the developers were just going to make the lore state that they've always been around rather than go with the previous "rarely seen" idea? >_>;;
I could see it being similar to the moogles who kept out of sight until the calamity.
Now that everything has gone crazy they're coming out into society because of it, much like what Wolfandre said.
They are hunters and solitary and totally happy hiding out in the forest. Here you go:
Lore Part 1
The ancestors of the Miqo'te made their way to Eorzea during the Age of Endless Frost, traversing the frozen seas in pursuit of the wildlife upon which they subsisted. Adaption to a hunting lifestyle has fashioned them with a keen sense of smell, powerful legs, and a tail which provides them with exceptional balance.
Miqo'te are known to be very territorial, and many individuals tend to lead solitary lifestyles, particularly males. The few Miqo'te who have made the transition to life in Eorzean society are predominantly female.
Lore Part 2
During the Age of Endless Frost, as the seas turned to ice and passage over them became possible, Eorzea saw an influx of foreign fauna to her shores. This in turn brought the hunting tribes which subsisted upon them, the modern descendants of whom are today known as the Miqo’te.
Since then, the Miqo’te have diverged into two physically distinguishable groups — the diurnal Seekers of the Sun and the nocturnal Keepers of the Moon. Both groups share a superb olfactory sense and powerful leg musculature, results of a long evolution geared towards hunting and predation.
Comparatively few in number, they maintain an insular group mentality, tending to avoid contact with the other races. Many individuals lead isolated lifestyles, even when residing in the more populous cities.
if on the field, there are still very few m. kitty, then I don't think it's matter. in some part of the game, it's in a weird situation because theoretically the other players doesn't exist but they exist...
So, no matter when is the first white raven kill it, the time is pausing until "you" kill white raven. so, I don't think the game need to explain where did they go...if there are only a few male kitty npc...I think there [number] at [location], that's all I've seen
