Just doin' our parts! When I look back at XI, over time, the world lost track of the lore. The party system encourages skipped cutscenes and enter mashing - content can take months to complete, etc. It just skipped though the cracks for a lot of people (and not just people who didn't care).

Being involved in FFXIV from day one, I don't want to let that happen again. Final Fantasy is all about bringing together all the lore. Ancient inter-culture mythology, cultural-specific folklore, legendary tale, urban legends, pop culture references - it's all fair game and between installments you can expect the same real-world ideas to manifest multiple ways.

On top of this, Final Fantasy Online tends to integrate and evolve the lore of previous Final Fantasies.

I wholly regret that I'll be walking away from XI without the ability to re-experience every nuance of the story (part of me even wants do one of those "private server" dealies just to Loremonger it up retroactively and make a guide for everyone). But, I won't let that happen with XIV.

I don't care if it's not until years after the game closes that I finally have Loremonger finished - it's gonna happen, and I'm ecstatic that SE's staff (and a nice niche of our community here) are as on board with making the story as memorable and impacting as any other FF should be.

Plus, the LOC and Lore's most vocal community representative is a great guy, so, bonus!
