Naming Guides: In Game?

Excellent work on the naming convention guides!

But are they going to be included on screen, in the game, when you get to the part where you have to choose a name during character creation?

If they're not there, I fear a lot of people (especially newcomers) would be so eager to get into the game that they'd blow through name creation without even knowing there are lore rules that they could have used for inspiration because they don't check the Lodestone or instruction manuals until after they've played a while.

These things deserve to be front and center!

I think what could also help off-set that as well is to have a random name generator at the naming step for those who are unsure of what to name their character, but kind of want to fit into the setting at least. They can also cycle the random names to get a feel of how the naming conventions go (although for the Miqote, you probably wouldn't notice the naming convention unless you actually do look it up).

When you get to the naming part in Character Creation, there could be a button somewhere that brings up the naming conventions info. This way it's an optional thing.

That would be more than reasonable, and also, maybe an automated name generator? I've seen some games having one (did XI have it? I know ToR has one) and it really helped me select a name, even though I never got what it gave me, but adapted it a little to my tastes, I think it's a great feature to add.

All of those are good points/additions!

If a button was worked in to toggle the display of the info, I'd at least hope the button stands out a bit so it doesn't get lost and unused in a corner.

Thankfully, naming comes after you've already chosen race and gender, so it would only have to display the conventions for that particular choice rather than the full lengthy lore posts above. Granted... it gets messier with Miqo'te and Roegadyn partially using parental names so someone might need the conventions for more than just the race/gender of their particular character but also the mother/father.

A random generator would also be great! Get the inspirational juices flowing. (And yes, XI did have one, though I'm not sure it used any lore as a basis for its results)

I'm pretty sure it used lore. I met an Elvaan whose name was obviously made to look like an Elvaan name, and I remember asking if it was randomly generated. He said it was. I'm pretty sure all player character Tarutaru are female, though, as males have hyphenated names.

I also remembered the FFXI playerbase(well, some of it) complaining how the random name generator gave any Galka character very bland names (Rabid Axe, etc.) so I do beleive that the generator does go by the lore naming conventions in FFXI.

I support this idea. FFXI had a name generator. WoW also had one if I recall and the names followed some sort of naming convention I'm sure. It'd be more work for the dev/localization team to include..but it'd be nice!
