After 2 years I'm too attached to my name,many times I had to argue with other players because my name was stupid (or because it was stupid to role play a character... oh well for those guys it was stupid even watch cut scenes or read dialogues) and btw I still have my summerfest wallpapers with my miqo'te in swimsuit and her shiny name (and old server)... I feel sad Kira is also the name of my older cat in RL so I can't change it, I just used an "h" to give it a more mithra/miqo'tish look. My immersion is ruined! (you can add the meme I'm too sad now...)

I'm making the oposite assumption. That the japanese crew working on those conventions are using the apostrophe as a mean to create words with a foreign, special and distant feel from their perspective. It is most likely done without knowledge of the impact of the faulty usage from the roman/latin based languages perspective.

I doubt they created the words initially from katakanas as they are used to emulate pronounciation only and if you can find me a combination of hiraganas that would fit: "A’zumyn Bhen", then i'll give you a baggie of catnip from my own private stash. Keep in mind that this is mostly a hunch of mine. Speculation at best.

Llen hit it right on the mark... coming up with katakana/hiragana for it really isn't that hard...

As far as apostrophes go, I don't think they've gone overboard with it, as it becomes a trait of the miqo'te. The other races don't typically use it. Sure it's used to evoke foreignness and unfamiliarity, but what exactly is wrong with that? It would hardly be unique to the Japanese either, this is a common technique in English literature as well... There's also nothing saying apostrophes have to be used only as they are in English and its related languages. They're often used to indicate contractions or glottal stops, but their function is not limited to this.

As far as translation origin, they most definitely did not start with katakana. Fernhalwes specifically stated previously that the naming conventions had to be translated into Japanese, not from it.

I'm going to use the guides to create one for myself, but it won't be used as my in-game name. I've grown far too fond of the backstory that Baderon was told that I'd prefer to remain anonymous, misunderstood the lalafellin accent coming form the floor of his crowded tavern, and has been introducing me as "Mr. Anony Moose" to everyone in town ever since.

Oh, and I would appreciate it if you used your real name-there's a special place in the seventh hell for those who use "amusing" aliases.

If I get the option, I'm changing my name to Totomojo Papamojo as my friends call me Mojo anyhow. Though if we can change race, I'm prolly gonna go Roegadyn anyway.

I'm hoping for a race-change to be justified by lore, ie Hydaelyn has stored you as a memory (or 'echo' if you will) and reincarnates you as the being who you feel you are... or something... (convincing your retainers that you're the same person and you want your stuff might be entertaining though).
