    Here's how this will work:

We're planning to use an online registration form that will allow you to create an alias of your choice.

Players will be able to enter a first and last name, both of which can be up to 13 characters in length. The first letter of each must be capitalized, and no numbers or symbols will be permitted.

We're also thinking of allowing only first names as well. My name, for example, could be either Okipuit Ogre or just Okipuit.

Please be advised that there may be circumstances where certain names cannot be used, or we request that names are changed.

Once everything is ready we'll make an announcement here on the forum, so be sure to keep an eye out!
{Hmmm.} Where have I seen this before? And almost exact wording (save for names)!

A RP server is still in the works! This is exciting news, indeed!

I'm really against this because I enjoy RPers.

It's like with the server locations.

Anyone can join in any server, but we'll hardly see any japanese players making characters in an american one for example. So in the actual practice something like this only promotes segregation.

    So what I'm getting to?
If you are making a RPing server to get RPers out of the way, you found the way.
But if you are making a RP server to make RPers a favor... don't.

Having a RP server will alienate normal players from joining it and will make a ghost world out of said server.

I rather have everyone mixed up! It was really fun to see RPers make the server more lively with their In-Character /says and /emotes.

So yes to RPers, no to an official server.

The RPing community isn't big, and you have to remember they are also gamers. So by putting a fence around them you're just dividing us into more sub-sectors.
First by latency, now by your hobby.

And I'm almost certain that there aren't enough role players to fill up / merit a server in XIV.

What an official RP server will cause is this:
Players will make two characters. One in their normal server, one in the RPing server. They will only log to the second one when their RP session is in progress.
Players who only have one character in the RPing server will be in a world with an active population that doesn't even reach one hundred.

Take a look at the EU server. Its just one server and not even EUs want to be in it.

    Great news! \o/

Would be cool if there'd be a RP tagged server, so I'll know where to go to stalk on Nix >:]

Also YAY for the form concerning our names in the credits!

I disagree that designating a server as RP will keep regular players away. That has never been the case in any mmorpg that I've ever played where there was an officially designated RP server.

There are more than a few "normal" players who look for RP servers to make their home because the server communities are often better than regular PVE servers.

Labeling a server as "RP" also helps RPers find other people that are interested in RP and often have naming policies where names that break lore are not allowed (i.e. names like l337 warri0r or other nonsense that doesn't fit with the world.)

Haha Coris, I'll be avoiding the RP server with my main! I'll totally let you know where I'm headed though, maybe we will end up in the same place, who knows? XD /stalk /stalk /stalk

    Pretty much this;
Hell when XIV first started up, Besaid was listed by the community as the unofficial RP server there was no segregation; it was just a hub that RPers could go to.

With the labeling of the RP server this will be no different, except that this time it's officially labelled instead of community labelled. RPers will know that there will be a higher concentration of players there but they're also free to go anywhere they want, same as before.

Nothing will change except that one of the Servers will have an official RP label instead of a community label

    Have an awesome day guys!

I know many players on Balmung that are not roleplayers but they picked that server because they like RP to happen around them or because RPs are said to be friendly community. RP label should actually help the server because even if it'll be full there will always be RP players wanting to join in~
And y on earth would anyone create a seprate char on non RP server? This server would be exactly the same as any other just with that extra RP community. Ragnarok is a different case. Many ppl didn't transfer there because they prefer international server (as it was in 1.0) over EU only. With 2.0 and regional servers the ratio is going to change, I'm sure. "RP" doesn't mean "I won't have anyone to play with so Im not going there".

Haha some do! But honestly it just means that there are a lot of people who like to role play there.

It's hard for them to have fun doing so on a regular server because they face a lot of spite from other players who don't think that roleplaying is acceptable even though it's perfectly harmless fun.

Having a designated roleplay server just means that they'll be able to roleplay in peace on that server; there will be no added boons or whatnot for playing there.... unless you count the peace of mind that you can roleplay freely and without hindrance.

I'm glad to hear that they are looking into the possibility of a RP server!

And I am not worried about a server being designated as RP driving non-RP'ers away. Interesting tidbits:

    - SW:TOR's busiest server is a designated RP server (by a narrow margin, but still).

    - One of the most populated, active servers in GW2 is the US (unofficial) RP server. People guest there a lot and it is known as one of the "best" servers.

I post these examples to illustrate the point that a RP server won't lead to everyone but RP'ers avoiding it like the plague. From what I have noticed, a lot of non-RP'ers join RP servers for the community. ^^
