i haz 2 philosophy in these regards, "everybody gets one" and "pay it forward" i got the cold shoulder all to often in XI, so when XIV came along and i was powerfull enough to do something about it, i did. and it would be gratifying enough that even days sometimes weeks later i get a random /tell from a player that knew the player that new a guy who knew someone i had helped and wanted to ask my advice, or needed directions, or what peice of gear dropped from what nm wich im all to happy to give. then i would know the circle was complete.

I used to spend alot of time helping people in XI, (helping peoples get through konschat, PL, raising random parties in the dunes etc)and of course in that game a lot of things can't be done alone (back in the day anyways) so there were times that people helped me. But there were many more times that people were too busy and what not, even the people that I had previously spent time helping would give me the cold shoulder. Afterwards I still found myself helping people, but I became rather distant.

I see some threads saying the game will fail because of grass, of graphics, of questing or gameplay... but this is putting all the blame on developers.

What will make new players stick to the game is also the people who are there, how welcome they feel, how helped they are and how great the adventure they go through is.

there is a lot of friction lately between Legacy and non-legacy and I won't even start saying who's right or wrong but in any case, I think Legacy or not have a huge part to play in the success of that game.

Ex:
1/you are a healer going from point A to point B on foot. You see someone about to get KO by a mob > Heal him
If you are attacker, you can also help someone who needs it

2/ You see lot of people trying to kill same monsters your are for a quest.
You know you only need to get ONE hit on that mob to get the count for your quest, why not letting other people hit it too?

3/ If you have buffs that can be cast on others, randomly give it

4/ people shouting asking for an item you have more than plenty off, people asking for where to go... you know what you can do

I am probably SUPER idealistic but if I play MMORPG is before all for playing with people.
I have always been healer in mind, love to give random heal/buff if I can

and don't you like to receive them or be helped?

Before blaming SE on everything, let's try to make the game as positive experience as we can for everybody and ensure that each and every player feel welcome in the game so we can grow our ranks with time.

I want people to say that FFXIV is their best online experience, don't you?

I feel that MMO communities could be a lot friendlier than they are right now lol.
I hope ARR allows mixing of former and new players and that it becomes the best community! ^^

Well, maybe not much positive from me and it's not hateful either. lol

I have had a great time in FFXI for 9 years so far but FFXIV... I didn't deserve my best online experience cause of "third-party" voice chat features required by many linkshells for endgame content in 1.x. That's how I gave up and am hoping for changes in ARR where I can play with everyone like you treat me equally.

I guess I am melancholy... lol I don't blame anyone if they really want voice chat.

I recall an experience in my not-so-distant past that fits right in with the theme of this thread.

I was on my way to complete an objective in a particular quest, and when I arrived at my destination, another person was currently doing the same quest that I was about to do. As I watched, it was apparent that he/she was a bit in over his/her head. So, I sat back and topped the player off with some cures. In the end I was thanked. I then proceeded to complete my quest, but I, too, had a rough time of it. Near the end, I also received a cure or two to get me through. Turns out it was the same person I had previously assisted. A returned thanks from me and we parted ways.

It is a good thing to help others. You never know when it'll come back around.

Randomly helping people, does not make a game magically have great content..lol..
I always help people, always have. It didn't save FFXIV though..

What will make the game great, is if they get off WOWs butt and stop trying to make an MMO, that is just like every other MMO..
They need to get back to their roots, that made them great in the first place.
The FF series has steadily declined in quality over the years imo.
Honestly anyone who has followed the series, knows that to be a fact.

Want to make the game great? Get SE to stop trying to copy, every other MMO that is failing.
