    Blue Magic

Blue magic is something I would really like to see implemented sooner than later (though not too soon obviously due to the lack of mobs/skills/content). Throughout almost the entire FF series blue magic stood out to me as one of the most fun class elements. If it is implemented, however, I would prefer to not see it as mindnumbingly complicated as in XI. It should be challenging to acquire but not challenging enough that you'd have to spend days upon days just trying to get a mediocre skill.

For those unfamiliar with blue magic, it is a skill class to represent skills obtained from enemies... not necessarily being magic. Another term is monster skills.

    FFV - Blue Mage
    FFVI - Rage
    FFVII - Enemy Skill
    FFVIII - Quistis' special abilities
    FFIX - Quina's blue magic
    FFX - Kimahri's overdrive
    FFXI - Blue Mage

I feel that with the overhaul of the battle system, some mob skills in general should be overhauled as well. Give them more skills and not make them look so generic. Enemies like the Karakul sheep are interesting with their sleep/AOE ability, and the dodos with their status effects, but most enemies seem to just attack/basic ranged attack and do some lacklustre physical attack.

If you are also a fan of blue mage, discuss how you'd like to see it implemented and what mechanics you'd have in mind for obtaining monster skills.

Edit: Oh, and Ahriman with their math skills (Level 5 Petrify), a classic blue magic sort of ability.

None of the abilities in this game are as epic as the ones in FFXI (or as lethal). I don't see the value of a blue mage in this particular game.

I would like to see Blue Mage added along with Mystic Knight.

I think the game would do well with both as for how to gain the skills from blue mage..

Option 1: I would like to see something either like a draw skill from FFVIII (not always gaining the skill of course).

Option 2: A mirror skill. This skill can work like Haymaker when you evade. For example A bomb uses self destruct you can only learn this skill if you use ''Mirror'' with a limited time frame of surviving the skill thus gaining the skill. The skill must hit you so obviously it would be harder for non AOE skills.

I rip the axe from the head Covered in blood and brains Leave the body lying dead Ready to strike again
My sword cuts through clothes and skin Like a hot knife cuts through snow I smile as the bastard screams When I twist my sword
Sword in my hand Axe on my side Valhalla awaits me Soon I will die Bear skin on my back Wolf jaw on my head Valhalla awaits me When I'm dead

    Viking Job Please!

It really depends, some spells were dramatically changed from the enemey counterpart.

Also, I wouldn't speculate much about jobs at this point, not trying to troll but Yoshida said it will be awhile before we see new classes.

True, although analyzing data currently in the game with the plethora of locked job classes that are already there, most of them still seem rather generic and serve no particular purpose. Clearly, I'm sure they will be redoing those job classes to a degree and making their skills more unique, so that's why I bring up such a discussion now as blue magic might be implemented into one of those future classes they're reworking.

I rather like the idea of blue magic, altho im not sure how it will work with the current rank system in regards to spells.

The only way i can think of it working is say every 2 ranks, you are able to aquire a new ability. so rank 9, you can have up to 5 abilities (of course, you will be able to replace abilities if you wish, but if you want it again you will have to re aquire it)

As for gaining these skills., either something a bit more tricky, say a "learn ability" move, you can use when enemy is 25% health or lower. you must use this for say 30 seconds. neither you, nore the enemy can die in this time window. The second option could be you have the defeat x amount of enemies in a row. An example, 15 dodos gives you sleep ability

Considering there was a bug not too long ago where you can use monster abilities after they hit you (there are no actual spells in this game, just abilities) I'm sure Blue Mage could fit in quite easily, as long as the class system is reworked.

    Have to disagree here...

Impish Incantations can wipe low level leve parties. Sanguine Bite can make mongrels practically unkillable if you set a leve at too many stars. The Hedgemole burrow ability makes them invulnerable for a few seconds, then deals significant burst damage. Slug's discharge deals significant damage and has an AOE Silence effect. That's just to name a few.

Even though the game is lacking in content at this point, the enemy mobs still have a wide range abilities I would love to have access to, and that includes everything from self-buffs to offensive debuffs and attacks.

Honestly no new job would make me more excited to play than Bluemage.

I would hope to see Bluemages get an ability called "Learn" that lasts about 60 seconds. Any spells/attacks that a mob uses while the ability is active could be learned and equipped by the Bluemage, provided they actually survive the battle and defeat the mob first. There would have to be level restrictions as well on when an ability could be learned. Ahriman's AOE Petrify, for example, would probably have to be a higher level ability.

I would also like to see some of the abilities require MP and some require TP, depending on type, but like someone mentioned, it might be a long long time before this job is actually added.
