How do you view your character?

This post is gonna get a little philosophical so bear with me.

I think that our character is the main character in the story, with our buddies supporting us (all a matter of perception). But, we created them, so how do you view your character?

A.) Just someone you made for the story. In this thinking, you really aren't that close to your character.

B.) A vessel for your conscienceness. Your body can't enter Eorzea, but your consciousness can. "Hmmm, do I fight this marmot, or that opo-opo?". You realize it's a game and your character is just a vessel that allows your conscienceness to travel to another world. Similar to C but you realize it's not real. Like virtual reality.

C.) Your character is your alter-ego. Similar to B, but you pretend that the game is real. You temporarily suspend belief to make your mind believe it's real. YOU are your character. When you log off, you are sorta disoriented and takes you a minute to think "Oh yeah, it's just a game".
Like Total Recall I guess lol.

D.) None of the above, please explain.

There are no right or wrong answers, we each experience the game in different ways.

    --------------------------------------------------------

As for me, I'm more of a "B" person. I know this game isn't real, but I give my consciousness to my character. My character can make decisions (my conscienceness does for him) like, gee, do I want to take a chocobo to this camp, or teleport?

Though some days I'm C. I get so into the game, I forget it's not real. But mostly B

    I guess I'd be a B type of person o.o;

My character more or less looks like me irl and more or less behaves like me as well - with the difference being that everything is slightly amplified in game due to the freedom a virtual world gives you. For example, like running around and climbing stuff in golden underpants >.>

Depends on how much time I have. I'm mostly a B person but that requires me to really "get into" the game and do something enticing.

If I'm just planning a couple of hours of grinding or something repetitive I probably won't get much into character.

    C

When I play the game, I'm not myself And I don't have y "real world" personality. I completely become somebody else; an arrogant sorceress who recklessly seeks power, yet can be heroic if needed to be. When I turn off the game, I am me again.

It's so much fun doing it that way!

    Type B.

I play as myself. My character is me. The way I think is what I have my character do. I already modeled my character to look like me (besides the scars and face art).

I'm more B than C. I'm aware that it's VR, but it's more than just a game to me. It's a place I can call home to many adventures and friends I've met on there. C feels more like an RP feeling, but aside from that My character is my representation of myself, so I take pride in her. And even though the events that happened it the game are "just in the game", I believe it has affected a lot of players in that sense. So to feel any emotion from events that happened (e.g. end of an era video) then you have to have some attachment to the game. So my character has a special place in XIV and in my heart. (︶ω︶)

How I view my character actually reallly just depends on the current situation the character is in:

If socializing with other players (Except those that may be RPing) I would tend to go B, since I interect with others much the same way I do IRL (Minus gut-punching and eye-pocking and midget punting... okay maybe gut-punching and replace eye-poking with forehead-flicking).

While viewing cutscenes I tend to imagine my character as C. But usually I associate my character as the typical silent-hero archetype that's around so many games, I still grow attached to it (especially after the last grand company quest in 1.0, I clapped as well for my char :P).

And while in combat that's not story driven and is more for aesthetic purposes (Dungeon runs, Levequests, etc.) I go D... where my character is imagined as an ACTION FIGURE WITH COOL SPECIAL EFFECTS THAT LIGHT UP (Batteries not included).
