    Interesting thread!

"A" at the start since this was basically my first RPG ever (online or offline) and didn't know what to expect.

"B" is what it became. I am basically just being myself in Eorzea. And I have spent so much time in FFXIV v1.0 that I grew very attached to my character and see her as a part of myself now.

"C" for my in-game friends. There could be a cultural difference here. I play during Japan peak time and spend nearly all of my time with Japanese players. Most are very private and only speak about real life in vague terms.
At first I thought it might be nice to connect through social sites, but now I really don't want to know their real names, their jobs, or what they look like in the real world. I am quite satisfied to only know their online incarnations, sharing laughs and tears together in a wonderful digital fantasy world.

I switch between B and C. It's the reason I only ever make one character for every game I play. That character IS me.

I think I'm a B. I like playing as my character as if they are me. Kinda works too well sometimes. Not much of a role player though.

Unfortunately my character is me, equally as socially inept in game as I am in real life. Sometimes I will think to myself out loud while in game.

The other day I found myself thinking, why does a person play this game? But I believe the answer is as simple as saying "why does a person live their life?" Even if the world appears artificial, the people we interact with are real, the time we spend in this world can never be reclaimed. Those things are very real...

Also when we stop playing, we have nothing left of the world besides perhaps memories. When you wake up from a dream, you have nothing left of that dream. When you die you have nothing left of what we call life. Is one reality really more real than another? Knowing that at the end of life, you will have nothing, yet people keep living. Knowing that at the end of the game you'll have nothing, but people will keep playing. It's rather interesting, when we rush to devour new content will we cry out to god that it wasn't enough. I don't know many people that rush towards the end of their lives. /endrant

I dunno maybe a combination of everything?

My attitude to my character has changed alot between FF11 and FF14. On FF11 I was our linkshells main tank, party leader, linkshell officer I tanked everything it was my number one responsibilty and I relished it. Everyday I aimed to get better through perfecting my skills, merits, and gear upgrades. I pursued these things ruthlessly.

Fast forward to now, with the full weight of responsibilty on my shoulders IRL I have changed how I view my character.

Now I view my character as just a simple soldier, happy to play his small part in the larger machine. He is the geeky, goofy, non serious part of me, a slacker, with no real ambitions, happy to go with the flow. Whatever happens ,happens.

I have become a jack or all trades and a master of none, I will play every job, do every role. Alot of my time is spent away from harder content, I really am quite happy crafting while listening to some music. But every now and then they let me tank, and that other part of me comes out..

I imagine you sitting at the pc, tanking while eating Moro bars, drinking mello Yello and listening to M83-Echoes at full volume; banging your head when the song gets pretty heavy and then enjoying Shield Bash all too much and trying to time it with those heavy parts... XD
