Do you think 1.0 was shut down prematurely?

How much time could copying character data take? I understand it is going to a new engine and all, but still. Final save was 4 months ago, by the time we play our old characters in beta it will have been 4.5 to 5 months ago which is quite a lot of time for them to do the copy. I have never heard of any game doing this, every gamer I have told has been absolutely shocked.

I just wish we had a few more months to play as I was still enjoying the game very much.

That's unfortunate, however, when an MMO generally fails they normally don't keep the servers alive for 2 extra years, let alone making updates to it, so having it shut down "prematurely" is a bit of a stretch at that point.

I have to disagree with this because while 1.0 was not liked in its entirety by anyone but the climb they maybe with changes to 1.23 revived alot of faith in their fan base as well as the direction the game was headed. The idea of 2.0 would not have had as much support without the climb and even more so with the tag line still being 14 instead of 15. People will always remember the bad but the links in history leading up to the next good are just important much more so when you are living on faith which SE did with this project instead of cutting loses. In video games and in software industry in general that is rare.

Seeing how beta 1 and 2 is more or less stress testing. They don't need shit load of level 50s walking around top of that they be noting for you to do.

So really there no point of having our char right now and it better if they make sure all our information is in 2.0 right and not have missing items and such.

You also never heard of a company remaking there game from a fail release. So ya there you go just think of 1.0 never happen and now we waiting for a real ffxiv release.

It's about a lot more than just copying character data. It was in large part to halt all development on keeping 1.0 End of an Era content and focus all resources available on ARR only, rather than trying to split their efforts into two projects. If they didn't stop 1.0, it's very likely ARR would be coming out even later than it already is.

It should have shut down earlier, so they'd have more time to focus on A Realm Reborn.
