Before OCZ bought them they used to be far better. They started dropping the old models that were actually good(I have one) and started using the name to sell cheaper units effectively.

Reading through it, it seems pretty our of date. My OCZ PSU is modular, has a 120mm fan and is probably multirail, too. Before OCZ bought them they used to be far better. The OP themselves say that the Silencers from 2 years ago "aren't terrible. In fact, they're arguably better than the original Silencers". The TurboCool (aka 800w+) being overpriced is nothing new, barely anyone needs them, except for people with SLI/Crossfire. The rest is well served with a 650w PSU, and those were one of the cheaper ones compared to other products.
Yes, there are better options available, but not everyone can afford (nor need) the best of the best. OCZ is midrange according to your link, and that's good enough for me.

That is a major blow to the nuts! Something like this is equivalent to Ryu from street fighter doing a fiery-haryukun-upercut right to the testies. I know the feeling though.
I hate when PC companies put sub par PSUs in their rigs. They put all these power hungry components in and then shove in a low wattage power supply and expect it not to explode.
Just another reason not to buy pre-made and build one yourself, I say.
Corsair, Thermaltake, Seasonic all solid PSUs. Powercool has been around a while so they aren't "unknown" and they do have some solid hardware. Could have just been a bad PSU; it happens. Hopefully you can get what you need before CB 1 starts. Good luck![]()
here's the kicker, hoping that the psu blowing like that didn't take some other components along with it...
I need to replace mine asap before this happens as well. I don't trust my xtreme gear 850w at all lol. I never leave my pc running when i'm not using it because of that.
You heard it too, didn't you? the voice... of the wind....
Be sure to do a thorough check before you just buy a new Power source to find that the surge also blew your mobo or other hardware.
I've been using my 850Watt Corsair for the last 2 and half years, they are definately a reliable purchase.

completely agree with this gent here. i have been using my corsair 750 for over 4 years now and it's in its second build i've done. i wasn't going to replace the power supply that was still running flawlessly so i bought a lower end psu for the old one and sold it off for almost what i had in the full thing lmao.
just make sure you get a psu that's compatible with your setup.
edit: adding an idea. i'd probably go buy a corsair psu to use in my comp and return the psu that came with the comp to get it replaced. use the corsair and you'll always have a backup in case it went down. the factory psu will be a huge downgrade from the corsair if something did happen to it, but it would be better than having nothing until you could replace/return it.
