oh believe me i give the boot if im lead. just annoying people have no courtesy and there could be someone who actually plays the game waiting for a party while a leech takes his/her place.
like Rau Lecreuset said above we need a /vote to kick.

Heavens I've had a friend AFK for a good 10 minutes in the middle of a friggen moogle party. I sure as hell wouldn't want him to have been booted out of the instance.

If someones friend gets mad that you kicked someone that was blatantly leaching. Then the angry person needs to tell the afk person when they get back not to screw over 5+ other people.
Emergencys happen to cause people to have to afk, but if it is going to be more then 2-3 mins the logical thing to do is remove yourself unless the group agrees to wait longer. Leaving for an extended time without telling the group is fair grounds to be kicked... that person who is complaining should also be kicked because he/she is apparently a noob for defending the person screwing over the party in the first part.
Key to this is to tell the party what is going on, if the player does not. well it is that players fault 100% that they got kicked.
I think the game should have no rights to kick you. It should be 100% in the partys hands.
also though on a side note, I am not saying kick people as soon as they go afk or anything, for those who seem offended. If you go afk much longer then you say, or for unreasonable times. Then you deserve to be kicked.
As for 10min in a moogle fight, if there was a really good reason, things happen. If not... it's max 30min, so he missed probably 50% because it's normally under 20min. Do they really deserve anything for being there less then half the fight? As I said if they have a real good reason fine.
A vote option could be acceptable yes, since sometimes the leaders are the afk people even.. I would also just not play with them.

-We already have a functioning in-game option for a party leader to 'oust' any member of the party. If the party leader afks, the group can reform without him. No need for getting booted out of game if afk.
-People remember who was nice and helpful and who was a leeching AFKer. People who consistantly AFK, leech, or are just unpleasant in general, get a bad reputation and ultimately, pay the price. Linkshells drop them/won't recruit them, they have trouble finding parties..etc. Again, no need to have the game punish them.
-Also, there ARE legitimate reasons people go afk. Reasons they communicate to the party and that are okay'd that would maybe extend past the 10-15 minute window you are suggesting. The game can't tell the difference between 'Oh crap guys I'm really sorry but my toddler is puking all over the floor got to afk!' and just silently going afk while others farm coffers for you for 30 minutes.
The real leeching problem came with the Chocobo Caravans. They placed in a counter-measure but many of the leechers had already gotten the coveted Choco Helm.
Hopefully the FATE system will have a similar counter-measure.
Also, remember that things like FATE and Chocobo Caravans aren't set up so you play with your party. It's whoever wanted to participate. What made the caravans so frustrating is that the leechers would take a spot (as it was first come first serve with 8 max participants) and those that actually wanted to actively participate and help were locked out.
When all else fails, Heck the Bed.
Bleh... they should do something to counter power-leveling in this game.
I mean 1.0, you could get all your classes to 50 relatively quickly just getting power-leveled. Which was lazy... and nobody knew how to play their classes, much less knew what the skills did.
To level I would think people should have to contribute to the battle, not just standing around leeching EXP. That shows its just too easy lol.
Are you an internet e-thug?
I laugh cause you fake. CX
You can't counter powerleveling. People will find a way to do it no matter what counters you think up. Besides, what business is it of yours how fast somebody else levels?Bleh... they should do something to counter power-leveling in this game.

People do have to contribute to battles if they want the fastest EXP. By not contributing, you're killing things slower. By killing things slower, you're getting EXP slower. The vast majority of people aren't "powerleveled" or leeching. Typically, if you do these things, you're just that much worse off when you reach the level cap, as leeching/power leveling teaches you nothing about playing the game. Their poor play will catch up with them when they try to do anything of significance. Just leave these people be.

Then you kick those people and find people who are competent. It's everyone's choice whether they want to suck or not, and it's your choice to play with them or not.
