Even if the PS3 version isn't perfect, for those who still can't use computers able to run ARR well I'm sure it'll be a better alternative than not being able to play. Why should SE cut out an entire section of customers?
Too late now or they would have downgraded everything for nothing. Probably half the reason they even redesigned the graphical engine from scratch was for ps3 purposes, so scrapping it would be tantamount to throwing their money away.I just finished watching the "Tour of Eorzea" video. They should really consider scrapping the PS3 version.
There was so much screen tearing and the frame rate was plain horrible. "We're bringing in the guys from Sony" doesn't give me much hope.
If they try to actually sell that for money, it will just piss even more fans off.
Who else agrees they should give up on the PS3 version? Release ARR for PC and perhaps consider a future PS4 release.
Which part of there being another 3 months of optimization do you not understand? If a game is not optimized to run smoothly, it is by no means an indication that it cannot be done. After everything this team has accomplished, one would think that they deserved a bit of faith. With the way that the new engine has been designed, the PS3's hardware is more than adequate to run it on lower settings once the software (the software currently optimized for a PC) is properly optimized to run on it.
And nothing was downgraded. The graphics engine is simply less convoluted. The engine is preset onto lower setting for the PS3 to avoid the hardware limitations that held back the FFXI graphics engine. The FFXI graphics engine could still be registry hacked to display considerably better than the configuration software allowed for.

When the world was young, the Sun bestowed upon me his crown; always will I light your darkest hour.
25% Optimizations can got a hell of a way. Hell a single optimization can increase performance of programs up to maybe 20%.
As for PS3 limitations I think SE mentioned that it will not be an issue. I think this has to do with the PS3 and PC using clients that are vastly different yet read and send the same data. Therefore if an update to graphics happen it'll not have to be updated on both ends. Though like this PS3er might complain that the PS3 version looks terrible compared to PC. I say get over that. PC is a better gaming platform; and this coming from a console gamer.
You're not getting "insulted". You're being told you're wrong.
I guess some people take that as an insult, but it isn't.
As a matter of fact, I don't think so. I know so.They have shown us footage of FFXIV-PS3 running at extremely low framerate. do you think the extra 25% optimization really change the final product much?
Only massive ignorance about computer hardware causes people to make a direct comparison between PC specs and console specs. Consoles run on a single hyperoptimized configuration, as opposed to the myriad of configurations on PC, which means that they can be juiced a lot more for power than a PC with the same specs.and the PS3 hardware's specs and what the console is capable of are well known by now
Let's not even go into the fact that the PS3 has a completely different architecture, that alters performance quite masisvely as well.
The PS3 has been proven capable of running MMORPGs, and there's no reason to believe that FFXIV will be different.
You brought absolutely no evidence that "they shouldn't be releasing FFXIV for PS3". Your very personal and highly uninformed opinion is no evidence.Cut it out with the "SE CAN DO NO WRONG" attitude, people... look at the evidence, they shouldn't be releasing FFXIV for PS3

PS3 optimization could be a number of things, I expect them to lower anisotropic filtering and possibly the draw distance, to get a constant reliable frame rate, if that doesn't work they'll probably lower the internal resolution a bit to to get a minimum of 24 fps in a active enviroment.
All I can say is that if square could get XI to run on the PS2, they can get XIV to run on the PS3.

I agree that the PS3 version isn't that great as the PC version, either way before judging a product before its released fully or even in beta stage, and seeing your comments I highly suggest you take some programming classes so you can see for your self first hand what optimization can do, because 25% optimization, heck 5% can make or break a program.
And lets say by some miracle that the PS3 version comes out full retail like we have just seen it, im sure ppl will still buy it. I mean how old is FFXI? 10 years, and we all know that FFXI on PC or xbox owns the PS2 version, but why do you think with the curent expansion they didn't release it on the PS2 except in japan? Over half of the japanese subs for FFXI are ppl that are still on the PS2 because its a much cheaper alternative than buying a computer. Even though everyone always bashes on "PS2 limitations" lots of ppl still play it on the PS2.
