I dont understand what you mean by having a lesser quality experience on several platforms. Are you saying that because the PS3 version exists that its going to bring down the quality of your PC playing experience? Please explain. In your previous comment you said that the lesser quality experience would at the very least only affect the people who buy the lesser version.
It's less that and more people getting a worse impression of the game by playing it on the PS3, not the direct effects on the PC version of the PS3 version existing (of which there are/will be very few.

One example of a ps3 concession is in the HUD- on the PC version there is a small graphical display indicating what's in your bags. In the PS3 version this graphical display is replaced with tiny icons with a number in them in order to conserve memory. This has me worried because if they badly need the tiny amount of memory it seems like that would save, what happens a few years down the road when they need to use more memory to display new information? Either that information has to not be displayed in the PS3 version (or something else in memory has to be bumped out) or a concession needs to be made in the lead platform version in order to make it work.

Would you prefer SE remove the FFXIV configuration program and force players to play with the highest specs simply because you think less powerful PC will "bring down the quality of the game" ?
This is completely different. On the PS3, what they give you is what you get- you don't have any choice in the matter. On the PC, if you need to drop the graphics down for performance you can- In doing so, you're fully aware that if you have a better machine, it will look better. You can also upgrade your machine to enjoy the better graphics- which, again, you can't do on the PS3.

you can always plug it in your pc to defrag it but its running unix im guessing and that dont need to be defraged.
I was under the impression that the PS2 hard drive's firmware was specifically set up to only work with a PS2 and it won't work with anything else.

well... I made this thread because the PS3 can't handle FFXIV graphics, and it's even more demanding being an MMO. even if they bring in extra help to optimize the game, the PS3 just isn't strong enough.

the latest PS3 footage is proof. that's not a "poorly optimized" game. that's an UNPLAYABLE game. Look how badly it's chugging in camp areas... imagine fighting a boss with a big party of players. You would be playing at 1 FPS.

It's been mentioned that a console port is important to the fans, especially Japanese fans where PC gaming isn't as popular...which is why in the OP I suggested they work on a PS4 version, which could definitely handle the game based on its specs

My question to you then. What happens if you're flat out wrong and the PS3 version runs perfectly fine?

It's not possible, but you offered a hypothetical situation. if FFXIV were to run fine on PS3, that would be great. but it won't.

He doesnt know, thats why this thread is laughable. Theyve been so nazi and dedicated to giving us a playable game, why the blue hell would they give us an unplayable version on console with the games future on the line. Really, explain it to me.

    I'll be happy.

seems very unrealistic at this point that they'll be able to make it playable in populated areas, boss fights, etc. though

But according to you, it's not possible.

PS3 won't show more than a certain number of characters on-screen, so crowded areas and boss fights aren't a problem. PS3 can also easily handle the polycount of the characters and world, textures are a bit lower quality due to lack of (V)RAM.

There are plenty other optimisations that can be done, and Squenix has EXTENSIVE experience with making games look better and run smoother than what people expected from a console.

And like others have said, don't underestimate what optimisation can do for a game. I've seen games go from nearly unplayable to very enjoyable after 1 person (specialised in optimising 3d engines) tweaked the engine for 2 weeks.
