Removing V1 Client and Game Files

Please allow me to apologize up front for my lack of PC savy.

Should we remove ffxiv V1 client (game/config) and game files, or will this cause problems converting to V2 ARR?

When I originally loaded V1 2 years ago, I let it load to the default locations. As near as I can tell, it loaded the client/config to c:\program files (x86)\square enix, and game files that contained macro/preferences/etc. to documents\my games\final fantasy xiv.

To totally and effectively remove these, do I need to do an 'uninstall' or can I just delete those files/folders? Not sure exactly how to check the size of these files, but I think they take up a fair amount of space, so if I don't need these, I'd like to totally get rid of them if they're no longer needed.

    Thanks.

Click on your start button and go to control panel. Click on your software/programs icon and it should appear in a list as ver 1.0 to the side. You should be able to uninstall from there. You want to uninstall as opposed to just deleting the folders.

You can remove all your files if you want. The only reason to keep them is if you want to use your character in the next benchmark, which is scheduled to come out after Phase 3 of the beta (SOURCE). Your character data for the game itself is backed up to Square-Enix's servers, so you don't need any of your current game data.

Thank you both for your quick and detailed replies.

Just to make sure before I pull the trigger on this - initial V1 required the game load from the retail disk. When it comes time for retail V2, no link will be required from the original V1, but, rather, we will load the game on-line, with the link allowing this being the fact that we have established accounts on the Square Enix account management system?

    Thanks, again.

We'll be given an installer.exe file. From that, it'll install the updater, which will then give us all the game files.

The 1.0 client can be uninstalled. It has nothing to do with the new one, you will not patch to it from 1.0, nor will it use the 1.0 files in any way. The only thing you'll want to do is leave behind the files in your Documents folder (the uninstall wont touch these) for the Character Creation benchmark when it comes out.

Square Enix will be converting/copying your character info on their servers so you can keep that character if you wish.

Damn, I deleted the documents file after I did the uninstall. Other than benchmarking, this isn't going to cause a problem converting my V1 character data to V2 will it?

Yeah, there won't be any problems. The only thing is you won't be able to use your old character as a a template for the CC benchmark.

Nope. All the important data is server side. You'll just need to redo your character creation is all it seems.
