Function is useless and people will stop using it after they feel its dumb. Just because you have small baby behemoth doesn't make you special. It cant do any emotes, cant dress it, cant battle with it, cant raise it.
I personally don't wanna see walking tofu's and floating white gloves from super mario smash bros.

I love them, I really do. But I really, really, really, really wish they would have some kind of purpose beyond vanity. Because there is so much bleedin' potential for gameplay value there.

Eh not my thing really I'd much rather pets be saved for a beastmaster class but what the hell, as long as they don't try and cash shop them and give them out as acheivment rewards or something I'm cool with it.
vanity pets + graphic mods is the cloeset thing I will have to a pet dhalmel. '=')
I still think a moogle combat companion would be miles better than a moogle vanity pet.
That being said, I've never been into vanity pets and even I support their existence in-game. It gives people something to do/collect (and you can bet we'll have pet collector achievements at some point), and adds a bit of individuality/character to our PCs. They're a good thing.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
