You guys sure reacted immaturely to this article. way to encourage the stereotype about rabid Final Fantasy fanboys who can't accept any criticism about their precious games.
You should get used to ARR getting criticism. it will become increasingly common with the NDA being lifted. especially since it's a subscription MMORPG which doesn't really offer any new features.
I don't think the writer of that article said anything too extreme or biased, and I'm not sure why so many of you are accusing of her "GW2 fangirl" because she made a GW2 comparison. the FATE system does remind me of GW2 as well (a game that I dropped after 1 day of playing).
Criticism can and should be given and received. Are you perchance saying that critics should be immune from being criticized themselves? You guys sure reacted immaturely to this article. way to encourage the stereotype about rabid Final Fantasy fanboys who can't accept any criticism about their precious games.

There's nothing "immature" on offering criticism on a bad job, and people that want to be critics simply need to learn to take it as well as they dish it. And Kuchera is well known for dishing *very* liberally.
Aside from the fact that using a comparison with another game is proof of weak journalism, especially for a preview (as you're comparing a finished product with one that's going to be long into production), there's a large difference between a comparison and a mockery.I don't think the writer of that article said anything too extreme or biased, and I'm not sure why so many of you are accusing of her "GW2 fangirl" because she made a GW2 comparison. the FATE system does remind me of GW2 as well (a game that I dropped after 1 day of playing).
Writing "Final Guild Fantasy Wars XIV-2" implies that the whole game is pretty much copied from the other, which is absolutely laughable and disrespectful, and it's the typical mockery you'd see written by a forum troll, not by a supposedly professional journalist on a well known website.
Besides she openly writes *as it was fact* that FATE is copied from GW2, which is a rather large sign of incompetence, since we all know it's been inspired from Warhammer Online, as Yoshida openly admits.
Ultimately she's very free to criticize the game, but in turn everyone else should be just as free to criticize her own work. No one is immune from criticism.
And mind you, the actual writer of the article has been decently cool about the criticism received. At the very least open to a dialogue. It's her senior editor that went all over the place acting like we killed his cat, which makes the whole matter even more ludicrous.

as opposed to the stereotype of gw2 fanboys/girls who compare everything to gw2 as if it's some kind of revolutionary masterpiece, and can't accept criticism about their precious game all the same? how about all those flaws the GW2heads are happy to ignore?
okay then!
I'm not sure how comparing it to GW2 is weak journalism at all. the system screams GW2. I think not mentioning it would be weak journalism.
and it's not unfair to compare them either. Guild Wars 2 is no more of a finished product than FFXIV. both were sold and will be updated over time. actually FFXIV was sold long before GW2. I'm not sure why you think 2.0 should be exempt from this kind of criticism.
I'm sure you have no problem with poorly written articles which portray ARR as amazing and totally ignore its flaws.
If 2.0 was an evolution or update or whatnot of 1.0, then perhaps, but it's not.I'm not sure how comparing it to GW2 is weak journalism at all. the system screams GW2. I think not mentioning it would be weak journalism.

Good journalists can make a point on a game's own strength's and weaknesses without needing the crutch of bringing forth other games. The system doesn't scream GW2. It's been inspired to another game that came a LOT before GW2 (Warhammer Online), and from which GW2 has taken inspiration as well.
Stating that it's "copied from GW2" is simply factually false and disingenuous.
FFXIV: A realm reborn is a new game, and it didn't even start its beta yet (actually, it will today).and it's not unfair to compare them either. I have problems with EVERY poorly written article. But I have a lot more problems with articles that blatantly disrespect and mock the work of development teams (of ANY game). There's a fine line between criticism and disrespect, and this article jumped well past it.I'm sure you have no problem with poorly written articles which portray ARR as amazing and totally ignore its flaws.
actually, it is. there's a lot of revamps going on, but it's for sure an "evolution/update" of FFXIV
if you deny this fact, you're setting yourself up for disappointment, honestly.
