Heck, I never even wrote anything on the comments section on her "editorial". I was too amazed at how poorly it was written to say anything about it. lol

I think the popular accusation made by people who are defending this woman's terrible lack of writing skills is that people "can't take criticism of a game they like". Well I can't speak for everyone, but I will say that I, for one, am an adult and can take it when someone says something not too favorable about a video game I like. But it doesn't change the fact that the woman didn't seem to even know what se was talking about half the time, while seemingly intent on praising GW2 the entire article. I've seen plenty of reviews written about FFXIV and all the reasons it's not a good game, yet this is the only one I criticized (EVER). That should speak volumes.

Lol, I honestly went over there to give her some criticisms on her writing (what professional actually writes the word "ass" in their preview article?) but as soon as I found out I had to sign-up, I found that I didn't care enough to do even that. Remember that there are communities on Reddit, Facebook, and even Google+ as well that could be culprits, assuming that they aren't fabricating their accusations.

Most of the negativity was based on the fact that she apparently doesn't know much at all about the history of mmo development, wrote an editorial before she even knew how the controls worked in the game, and formed an opinion of the quality of a game during a stress test. Because of this she states that GW2 was innovative in a concept that originated with Warhammer Online, didn't know how to use the map so hated it. If her or her editor had spent 10 minutes fact-checking instead of opinionating her post wouldn't of spiraled out of control.

I don't have any problem with someone ranting on about errors and giving constructive criticism. However, the flaw in her article was the fact that she said SE "borrowed" the concept of Bahamut descending on Eorzea. To me that is not true, Bahamut has always been with the franchise and to those who truly know Bahamut, we know how he can be. Another thing she did and I may be mistaken, was that she gave a review on a game that is NOT FINISHED. If you notice her article date, beta hasn't even started yet and she seems to know about it through the Alpha prospect. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but do not bash the game when it is only in ALPHA. Most game reviews come after the finished project, not when it's so early in its stages. There will be a lot of things people don't like about it I understand that. But I believe she was a bit too early to criticize it. And I understand the difference between feedback and bashing. She was giving her opinion fair enough, and it also seemed like she didn't have a lot of info on the game itself other than the fact that 1.0 did terrible and Tanaka resigned. So of course fans lashed out at her. But in my opinion, she should have waited.

What a simple and narrow minded writer. They do realize that battle journals have existed well before even WoW as well as active time events. (FATE) Does anyone remember Ever-quest and their world dragons? _-_ everyone copies everyone. it's how you present it that makes the difference. As a final note. She didn't get rewards for beating up a low level group mob. Oh no, you didn't get a reward for being a bully. How sad.

Hmm, I dunno if would have been merely disagreeing with a point. I don't tend to dislike people for making a point I disagree with. Differing opinions are always far more interesting to me than those I agree with. After all, who wants to only talk to people they agree with all the time? Well, I guess some do lol.

Knowing me, it was just a matter of a personality that rubbed me the wrong way at first. But, as is the case many times, some personalities just have to grow on you. Or you at least have to 'get used to them'.

I found it funny that they closed down the user responces to the article. One thing comes to mind, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Seriously, Penny-arcade feels they can take a crap on something, but in turn feel they are above being crapped on? My advice, consider your tone in your writting, if you are being critical about something, do it professionally. Sophie comes off being an amature. You can express your opinions, but do your research before writing so at least you can come out of it like you know what you're writing about.

Unfortunatly game most jouralists are of this caliber, they are the the red-headed stepchild of the media world.

I'll be honest, if thats the kind of attitude this man displays when dealing with a community who rightfully gave constructive criticism (I never once saw any trolling posts in the comments section, so I'm only seeing what I can see here) about an incorrectly researched article, then he isn't worth getting mad about.

I honestly feel pity for him and that site's readerbase if his attitude to constructive criticism over a badly researched article is to block said critique. It's clear he will not expand his scope as a "Journalist", nor will he be viewed as anything other than a child throwing a tantrum for being corrected.

I want to try and be fair and understanding to the guy, but he does not really make himself look like a decent person when dealing with this.
