    Two Tanks?

If they change the class system to a more traditional FF system I would like to see two types of tanks.

    Physical and Magical.

Rift does this pretty well With a job called ''Void Knight'' that is a magical tank that can become stronger when taking magical damage. As-well as taking much less than other jobs. I think adding two types of tank's would add a lot more strategy into the game and end game once it is released. Thoughts?

I rip the axe from the head Covered in blood and brains Leave the body lying dead Ready to strike again
My sword cuts through clothes and skin Like a hot knife cuts through snow I smile as the bastard screams When I twist my sword
Sword in my hand Axe on my side Valhalla awaits me Soon I will die Bear skin on my back Wolf jaw on my head Valhalla awaits me When I'm dead

I'll be constructive, as the other poster is probably just butthurt from hearing the word "Rift" in your suggestion.

The problem with niche tanks (or anything really) is the fact that they're useless when they're outside their niche. How would you deal with this? You either accept that and make it easy to switch to a different thing (the way Rift does, I imagine) or you give them a secondary use for when they can't perform their niche.

I don't really know if most players would be happy with either approach. Do you really want a magic knight that you're not "allowed" to play unless the encounter is magic based? What do you do with your physical tank when that encounter comes?

You probably do want 2 tanks though, more if possible, but not limited to a niche like you're suggesting. By having several tanking classes it means you don't have to wait for a specific job. It may be harder for the developer to balance, but that's one thing they're being paid for.

EDIT: Edited out job names. It didn't get the point across.

Well that is a problem, I had one Idea of jobs having more than one role and then you set it up in your action bar. Like you can be a Hybrid or a full magical tank ect, So for example a Mystic Knight can have skills to cast spells on their weapons but what if they also allowed that to apply to armor. So you would choose to be full Tank and only cast on armor or full DD. So you can make them cost some AP to where you would have to really choose Fire armor and Ice weapon or, fire and ice armor to choose from.

I would like to see zero classes that are dedicated tanks. Sure some of them deserve to have tanking skills, but I don't like the idea of a class that can only hunker down.

We have to see what they are doing with the battle system and class system first. Right now a tanking class would be pointless. But if they make the game so that the classes become jobs plus auto-attack tanking jobs will surely be around.

I am in favor of this.

Gear should be the main determining factor for whether or not you can tank, imo.
