One wonders if perhaps Tanaka was too ambitious with this game... Rather than build off the solid foundation that FFXI had, he decided to take it into mostly unknown territory.

Its a tough balancing act when you make a new edition to a multi-million dollar franchise like Final Fantasy. On one hand, you want to dazzle the players with something new, on the other, you don't want to disappoint your fanbase by departing too much from the formula that got you to where you are. These difficulties are exponentially compounded when you have the added weight of making an MMO. The job is in no way enviable, and I wish Yoshida-san the best of luck.
