I think, ppl which play atm, are the most loyal dedicated FFXIV players (including myself) aka fanboys (don't forget about girls). Casual mmo players see what's happening, and they simply choose to wait for big updates and than back to game, there is a lot ppl thinking this way, I have seen post's like that, on many forums.
Rest are mostly frustrated players, and I don't blame them, however you have to understand, game it's in hardcore development mode, which is basically result of poll votes decision. Player's which give votes on that and now are complaining about lack of updates, they simply shot themselves in foot ;D
Also while some might be mad about what's happen with game, I think its actually great that, this happen with SE Final Fantasy MMO. Those guys won't rest until they make this game top AAA product, and now with motivation and large team, they have to improve and change FFXIV. This will be huge I am sure of it.
Thanks to Tanaka, you can hate him or not, there are many elements which make FFXIV unique and innovating. It did not work out, ppl didn't like some things, game wasn't 100% ready etc. cos of many factors.
Now my point is, if all of this wouldn't happen like that, FFXIV could never be what it actually can be in near future. Just imagine if everything was polished on the start and have more content, ppl would complain less, it wouldn't get so harsh reviews etc, it might be lets say good game on the end, classic mmo with some nice addition's, SE would start charging and move on.
Because of all these event's, FFXIV become again Huge Project, with Tanaka old school, but visionary style, driving now by a huge team, plus brilliant innovating producer Yoshida. I hope you start seeing bigger picture now. Just be patient, changing game and going back to basic's like battle system etc. it's not same as updating existing content.
I'm glad personally, all this happen, ofc sorry at the same time for those who meet with disappointment and letdown, but it will turn on great thing at the end, you will see !!![]()
