I wanted to update and let folks know that a new column posted today at MMORPG for FFXIV:ARR. Someone linked one of the previous EorzeaReborn columns here at the forums and we had very positive reviews from it -- so I thought I would follow up on it.

Ryahl (my husband) is writing the FFXIV column at MMORPG.com. The new editorials are:

Another nice read. I agree with most - if not all - said in both of the Eorzeareborn articles.

There's something I find kinda funny, BTW.

The last post went by almost completely ignored (and this one only has 1 view so far), but if someone were to actually post any views similar to those in those articles here in the forums, well... we've seen what happens, right? (flame on!)

Yeah I know. When Ry has more time he should write up some more thoughts to add here.

Lately he has had more time to think about MMOs in general, and he had realized that the entire MMO market has really moved away from what it was 10 years (+) ago, and into an entirely new beast. Sometimes good, other times bad. He's a firm believer that there is a place for all types of games.. it just seems like most (AAA) MMOs today are very single focused.

I know some of his articles have had some negative feedback from "general" MMO players (on Reddit, for example), however his point isn't that some of the things he discusses in the EorzeaReborn columns are bad, it's that there are other options too.

Thanks for posting those - the last two articles hit a lot of chords with me that I haven't been able to express as well myself. The fast-food styled modern entries into the MMO genre have me missing what made the originals so great.

Gotchas. I'm not 100% sure he talked about it in any of the pieces, but one of the things that really got us was back in EQ2 when they released Kurnak. We got off the boat and went straight for Karnors (dungeon). Took our guild and crawled down to the very bottom, and killed the boss a few times. Finally got his very rare drop and was thrilled for a nice ring upgrade. Only to link it in our alliance and find it was worse then the end reward from a solo quest line in the expansion starting area.

It was very demoralizing.
