Thread: ATI Catalyst 11.4 Preview Drivers + FFXIV

I had to install these drivers to assist with Dragon Age 2 (as advised on the Bioware support forums), but when I ran FFXIV launcher it immediately crashed (when trying to open that first window where the updater appears) and gave a Windows error box.

Until I changed my graphics drivers I have never had this issue with FFXIV, and I have not added any new software after the drivers were changed (DA2 was added via Steam before drivers were changed), with the exception of ATI Tray Tools.

Is there an issue with FFXIV and the new preview drivers? From what I've read/seen online, these drivers have been very useful for many other games and have given a good boost to FPS rates. It would be a shame to have to switch drivers if FFXIV isn't compatible every time I want to play something else.

UPDATE:

After searching online about raphook.dll, it seems that closing ATI Tray Tools down solves the issue. There is obviously something it does that the FFXIV launcher does not like. Perhaps something to look at devs? The Tray Tools are very useful, and I re-installed them from having used in the past because I had liked using them to alter GPU settings.

That's interesting. I use Mumble but I haven't had an issue launching FFXIV when it has already been running so far....

To be honest, I've not tried re-installing the Tray Tools since this issue, and am now running Catalyst 11.6 without any issues of this kind since.

I'll just learn to live without it I guess - it's a pain to constantly have to uninstall/reinstall drivers/applications because of unforseen clashes with FFXIV, but what can you do....

I use Afterburner and have no issue running FFXIV at all.
