Well you shouldn't have provoked me, little miss Rank 25.

ArcheAge might be obscure and is still a year away from release. But Im sure if they released it now, it would have more content than FFXIV could ever have.

The thing is: you can say building houses is pointless, but having something to work toward like that (something tangible) has a lot of replay value. Besides, isn't killing mobs for loot and gear-grinding ( as per WoW or FFXI) just as pointless? Isn't that just role play? At least if you change the world a little by building a structure or by changing the political dynamics of the server, you can say you've achieved something. Killing a mob or whatever is an achievement too, but you kind of had no choice in the matter.

Mobs, gear, NMs, are all static. The game needs to shift to a style where the players can DO something other than what the developers spoon feed them.

You know, freedom of choice.

At the moment FFXIV just feels like an OCD kid's wet dream. You rank up with the objective being of killing all the NMs and getting +3 gear. If they change the combat system and if they add in more quests, that's still all it will ever be: a "gotta catch em all" type scenario.

At the moment, I have nearly two R50s and several +2 Silver Tricornes and Dodore Doublets etc... and getting them was fun and all. But it's just that, a gear grind. And games should evolve beyond this... into an ever-evolving game.
