Major difference would be: You'd learn about the game through basic information that's available to even entice people to play it. This is the information people are wanting to see.
Playing it is a different story, you'd learn more and actually experience things text can't describe properly. While that may be your personal opinion about it, most are referring to the information you can find on any website for a specific video game. You can't sell a game on "Wanna know about the classes and jobs? Play it and find out more! Wanna know where the game takes place? Play it and find out!" Ya know?
