If you think that's the rule rather than the exception (or at the very least, something not that common), you might want to look outside your bubble.
Most people here should do that actually.
So in other words:
"They'll leave the game because I hated it, there's no way anyone can or will like it."?
It's funny, because most people I play with still comments to this day that their friends are wanting to play but can't till the PS3 version rolls around.
If anyone needs to "look outside of their bubble" it's the pessimists. Not to mention no one said anything about it "being the rule", especially considering it's only the people who don't play the game or already left seemingly think nothing positive can happen.

Sorry OP... you're just plain wrong about the updates being insignificant.
But it's perfectly in your right to not play if you're not having fun. But I have to ask why you felt it was necessary to make a thread saying, "This game still sucks, so I'm not going to play until it gets better". SE is perfectly aware that the game isn't ready yet... that's the reason you aren't being charged yet. And if you're arrogant enough to think that your one thread is going to make them "wake up" or move any faster, you're sorely mistaken.
This is a troll thread.. SE is hard at work.. you have not given this game enough time to blossom.. through all japans circumstances i say they have done what they could with the game so far.
I just reread why that guy replied to you the way he did (which I sort of missed when replying to your post). No, he's not right in saying that anyone who'll ever join will also leave, but as things are there aren't enough changes to make returning players happy.
Shouldn't have replied to you (like I said, I got the wrong impression from not reading the first quote in its context), so disregard my initial comment.

I actually agree with this, but this isn't a troll thread. Trolling is intentionally angering others. I think OP was being sincere.
That said, SE should have worked on the game for a year longer before release. Or tripled alpha-beta times, this time listening to their players.
Let's not go off topic though, this thread is about a returning player's experience. Op's was bad. Mine too. Someone who doesn't pay close attention to Lodestone's updates won't see enough improvements after 6 months. This is a fact.
da-da!!! (waves hands over-dramatically)
Actually, I found time to go back on last night. Sorting out the game crasshes makes a huge difference and a massive drop in frustration. I restarted in Uldah and played for about three hours; and it seemed that I could level up more quickly than when I first played all those months ago.
The battle system seems smoother than it used to be and the search function on the market wards is such a huge change. I have to admit, I did like those few hours in FF14. I think there is a lot that still needs to be done, but I'll keep the game installed and log in a few times a week just to do some levelling until more content is in the game... it is free to play at the moment, after all.
Actually, it's not arrogance and it's not about one thread changing the world. It's about the potential to keep a company aware of how their customers feel about their product. In most cases I wouldn't bother, and there are plenty of businesses that fail without anyone ever telling them why their customers leave them.Sorry OP... you're just plain wrong about the updates being insignificant.

I'm not FF crazy, but I do have a big soft spot for it. If it's something that I care about, why shouldn't I try to make the company aware in a relatively constructive manner?
And, given that it's an IP that I really like, why shouldn't I complain to them about how much they've earnt my £40? Why shouldn't anyone be able to do that even if they're not fond of the IP? That's a lot of money to a lot of people.
And I didn't start a thread saying "this game still sucks, so I'm not going to play", I gave a reasonably constructive point of view of how I felt. You might not feel that the gameplay changes are irrelevant, I think they're important but far short of what's needed to really make this game shine and bring more people into the game.
We have been charged. We were charged for buying the game. There may be no ongoing charges at the moment, and that's great but what SE really needed to do for us, but are you happy at what your cash has gotten you?
I'm pleased for you if you are, and without a trace of sarcasm too, I'm genuinly pleased, but that doesn't mean to say that everyone else feels the same as you and it doesn't mean to say that other people shouldn't voice their concerns.
Oh sod off. It's not a troll thread. I've not given this game time to blossom? What planet are you on? Is releasing a game that's playable at release not the 'done thing' anymore? Is waiting for six months and getting some UI changes but, cruicially, none of the huge things that people have been asking for, not a long time?
SE might be hard at work. They should be. They sold me a crap product. And whilst I spent some time in the game last night and saw some of the changes that they've made were good ones - and big enough to make me want to dip in and out until the bigger changes come in - what kind of fan-boy hell/ commercial-companies-have-no-responsibilities world do you live in? Do you enjoy just telling people that they're trolls because they disagree with your wonderfully small bubble world-view? Even when the person that disagrees with you has openly and repeatedly said that he's really pleased if you're having a great time in the game?
You either didn't read the thread, didn't think or do live in a world of your own.
Do you not think SE should be working their asses off?
