Thanks all of you, you make me want to give it a go just for most of the responses! One of the things that I did like about the game when I first played was the friendliness of the other players, which first got me when I was struggling to fight through a leve and a random passerby stopped and buffed me up (so to speak).

I've only got around 5 hours a week to spare at the moment, so it actually might be good just to do some basic levelling until the next round of patches appear.

Thanks again! and... I should always bite my tongue when people on the internet are wrong. It never goes anywhere truly good (doh!)

who cares what you think. Dont like it dont play it. But do not say there has not been improvements since launch because there has been a whole lot.
Sorry, but that is completely out of line! To say nobody cares what somebody thinks is not on and is very disraspectful. If you disagree with the OP then why not do so in a constructive manner, NOT in thr derogitory, negative and quite frankly, rude way you decided to staple your response.

The opening thread is a good insight into the perspective of someone returning to the game, it is a good chance for a debate. not a chance for you to rudely disregard him as a person

with that little time(and the fact the game is still f2p) cant hurt to level a bit when you can so that you arent starting from scratch when good stuff starts coming in

IMO, if you're going to play super small amounts just log on -on the hour- any hour and do behests. they are really easy EXP and can help snowball you into other leveling mechanics that are.. somewhat entertaining.

I followed this guide for my system settings... I've been on an hour and no crashes! That makes a tonne of difference!

hmm sorry i just need to make some jokes here...

Is gridania; the woods ate up all the adventurous that goes in, no body want to go there anymore and get woodsin. So yea; is most probably why is so deserted comparing the other two cities. :P

I love Gridania for the fact that it's so isolated and a maze type of zone, reminds me of Kahzam jungle in XI and yes I was a fan of Windurst too.
The fact that nobody likes it and avoids the place actually validates the lore, it's a tough place to get to and it's people guard their secrets tightly. :P

With any MMO it's really important to research people's specs and find out how to adjust your settings, if I dare to turn on occlusion or depth of field I am in trouble the game barely runs. Without it everything is smooth. One day I'll have a processor that can handle this game full graphics, but not today.

Wildlife, armor, terrain, it's all made to be somewhat 'realistic' and therefore to many people boring. Personally I prefer this approach, at first everything is mundane like the start of a great adventure movie or book, but the more time goes by and the further you go the more outlandish everything gets, that's my guess of where this game was supposed to go.

There's been a lot of fixes that if you don't look for them you won't notice, yes the UI works a lot better, we've not seen the really big updates yet because adding functionality to the UI and market wards were priority. But that's coming soon. If you want content there are real quests now when you are in a city pay attention to your compass map and you'll encounter exclamation marks. Next up for fixing sounds like it's the battle system so don't expect any major content addition in the next 3 months either, in my opinion anyway, it seems there is just too much they want to change with the classes that's going to take some time.

Hmm Yhoator and Yuhtunga compared to Gridania hmmm. Some similaries, but many differences, for example if I forgot warp scrolls or invisible items I'd get gutted by a goblin (which I'm actually saying is a positive immersion point) whilst Grid is rather timid.

Of course if you wander too far you might get Malboro'ed. But it's just not the same...

Gridania is a starting zone while Kahzam was a mid level zone though... One should be more dangerous then the other. XP

I suggest check back in a month(if you're bored/annoyed/impatient). The delay hurt the game for some of the supposed "BIG" changes we are expecting. so only the minor changes are in affect still.

If you can work through it don't start in Grid. Uldah is the best choice with LL following(still suggest Uldah though). The world Mysidia also seems to be very active compared to the others I played. People will suggest Besaid but I haven't played there(since I enjoy Mysidia with my new character).
