It's about availability for viral, media attention. If people are too distracted by the monstrosities, it will be difficult for news about FFXIV to get out. The next week or two is the perfect opportunity for Yoshi-P to post something huge!

Suirieko Mizukoshi:, Portal 2 releases April 19th via Steam.

Socom IV and Mortal Kombat, both being released April 19th, along with Final Fantasy IV complete collection.

Edit: Not to mention Portal 2 couple of days later as well.
Those don't sound like huge blockbusters either. Oh look it's a new game, guess what the heck Belgian is talking about.

They can't do that if they don't have anything, I'd rather they release stuff when it's ready to go then rush to put something together. Rushing is what got us into this mess to begin with. :P

They don't need to rush content out, they just need to post something naming exactly what they intend to change, and roughly when to expect those changes.

Mortal Kombat will be big, but Portal 2 will be HUGE.

Think I'm full of bologna? Ok, let's just wait and see what happens.

I won't deny the fact that Socom and Mortal Kombat are pretty popular that some would even consider it as blockbuster. Portal 2, no doubt it is an epic game which I can't wait to get. Ultimately, I don't think they are going to have any impact on the game really. Just give them time to fix the game up, rather than rush it because of these games release dates.

However, I won't argue the fact that I'd like them to announce something big, sure, we all want that. We want to know what's the long term plans for this game really. More details, etc, but these informations are going to likely be more so come from only one place: The Lodestone.

I don't think anyone who quit after launch is going to see enough to impress them for a good year or two. It's a psychological thing I think. They set a high bar for FFXIV to begin with and 5 months of updates isn't going to fix that. I think we'll only see any real recovery in players who left after the first expansion comes out, and even then it's a shot in the dark.

Boil, keep the game installed if you want (a half hour is a long time to you? work on your patience, friend), but don't expect to see earth shattering changes and massive content additions anytime soon. Your best bet is to check in again after the battle system changes, but again, and not knowing you at all, I'd say it won't be enough until an expansion is in with chocobos, air ships, and a decent amount of new content. As far as your crashes go, that is rough... I haven't heard of anyone having that kind of crash trouble recently at all. I myself haven't crashed since October-ish. Up to date video drivers and all that jazz? The mob variety at low levels is weak, I agree but it does get marginally better as you level up, and I imagine this is another concern that will be addressed after a good amount of time.

All in all the game still has a long way to go. I am too am grateful for SE (were you sarcastic though, I couldn't really tell, seemed you may have been) for sticking with this project. The cynics will point out the cynical side of things, but I've never met a happy cynic, and I prefer to stay happy. I think FFXIV will come into it's own after a couple of years, and in 4 or 5 will be one of the best MMOs on the market. For now, those of us who enjoy it enough to bear the growing pains will do our best to keep the project alive until that eventuality can become reality.

Cheers and hope you work out your technically issues.

Suirieko, Square-Enix needs to repair the reputation FFXIV currently has. How are they going to build up hype when there hype is already rampant throughout the video game community for everything else that's out there?

Sorry those two games aren't going threaten FFXIV or any MMO for that matter. Not because they won't be very successful because there's just no competition, if anything it'll distract you for a few weeks while XIV gets an update or two and you're ready to come back to play :P

Cendres, 2011 will be littered with monstrosities after April 19th. The question is, how is square-enix going to get the word out that FFXIV is on track to becoming a masterpiece? We need something huge, and we need it before the 19th.

I really don't think timing's going to have any impact with 'hyping' FFXIV up. FFXIV already got a lot of bad publicity, even if they announce something 'big', people outside of this community will just dismiss it because they are only words. SE will have to prove that they are fixing FFXIV, which they are already doing so obviously.

Let's say they do come up with something 'big' to build the 'hype' for FFXIV, fantastic! Are we going to see it in sites outside of FFXIV Lodestone and the premier sites (IE, FFXIVCore, Eorzeapedia, and Zam?) I highly doubt it. Yes, I agree, these games are big, but 'littered with monstrosities'? Not really.

Keep in mind that we'll soon be approaching the E3 Season, along with the release of big games throughout this year, including Duke Nukem Forever (If hell actually freezes over and they actually DO release it), and of course Mass Effect 3 down the road, but these games aren't going to have anymore impact on FFXIV than games like Portal 2.

I'd say the only shot they have at building up the hype, as you put it, would be the PS3 release. If they do fix the game up to the point that people will actually enjoy it, MAYBE some game critics will forgive FFXIV and give it a 'second chance' with thePS3 release, and maybe it will get FFxIV the hype it deserves, when the game actually gets better.

    Sticking with the thread's topic...

I "came back" yesterday after being absent since November and the first things i noticed were the much improved UI and battle responsiveness and the the helpful market wards search.
These are very important improvements and i believe this is how the game was supposed to be at release, however the lack of content, the interesting yet utterly unexciting class system and most importantly the lack of ridable chocobos are still too soul-crushing for me.

I could find nothing to look forward to, or a reason to level up and do those repetitive levequests, plus having no playing friends left i felt tempted to give up sitting and crafting alone in a corner of Ul'dah for a round of solitaire.
Getting back is just that hard right now.

To top it all without server transfer i can't even move to Besaid and enjoy some roleplay without having to level up my crafts from scratch.

On a bright note i found a "sidequest". The NPC told me to go and kill three dodos in a cave so i doubt i will be much entertained, but i'm curious to discover in what way it will be different from a levequest or simple grinding in Thanalan.
