MMOs with just one server suck. Too much crowding, and I hate channel systems. The economy is overwhelming as well.

Seperate servers exist because it's the easiest way to manage a such a massive number of simultaneous connections and maintain the highest quality networking experience.

I don't think server transfer hasn't been given any range yet?

I don't know what you mean by range. If you mean date range, then yes. It's the same time window as for character recustomization as far as I'm aware.

However, players "Legacy" will not necessarily forced to stay on servers located in Japan and can play on another server closest to them.

And this is what I'm referring to.

we wont' be "forced" to stay, but we will be there if we don't choose otherwise.

I had created my own post before searching so i thought i would add my post here instead.

It has been known for quite some time that they are making regional servers. They are keeping the older servers and creating new servers that our old characters cannot transfer to.

My question is:
Where in the physical world will all the older servers be located? Will they all stay in Japan? Are they going to be moving the servers with a higher NA or EU population closer to the their own region?

Technically I think the older servers will physically become new servers (new hardware). Most ppl believe those 10 old servers (although new hardware) will be located in Japan, and that the additional servers added will be in the new regions. But the truth is, no one really knows. We have not been told yet.

Well, we do know they have reworked the servers to reduce the lag issues that plagued 1.0. I would assume this will also make it so a US player playing on a JP server hopefully wont notice any problems (IE Ifrit Plumes). Creating the regional servers was to reduce this lag as well as hopefully create stronger communities. So I don't think we will need to be on a local regional server just to run the game optimally.

What we do know is that our existing characters are associated with <insert server here that contains all the characters that were on the same server you were on before>. What we don't know is if all of these servers will remain located in Japan- which is uncertain but highly likely- i doubt they'd transport either the physical hardware or the data to other locations.
