I agree there should be dialogue options that allow you can choose what you can imagine your character saying even if it is only in text. Voice responses are for a pre-determined character, however in the case when the player can decide who their character is, the company voice option might not fit with what the player had in mind. SE took the safe route with choosing to keep player-characters silent.

Adding dialog would be a huge under taking (because you want to do it right) - adding voiced dialog would be freaking monstrous lol (if doing it right).

Every sex, every race, multiple voice options per, multiple choices per scene... Wewh.. lol

(Which is why I like to repeat that OP wants text dialog not voiced dialog, since it would be easy to make the argument "proper voiced dialog is nigh impossible, and there is no point if its not done proper").

In most instances I dont mind my character being silent type - but there are often scenarios that I'm watching him stay quite but physically varied (emotes) and for myself I've just come to the conclusion its my character's story and not an extension of me (like playing FFX versus playing Skyrim - in one Tidus is himself and its clear he has his own thoughts, while in Skyrim (or any Bethesda game) you can easily put yourself into your characters shoes - both work imo).

Or when playing Mass Effect I felt connected as an extension of myself (at least until the ending.. :P).

    Here's my idea:

SE can either develop, or use already developed tech that transfers YOUR OWN VOICE into the game, effectivly making you the voice actor for your character. I have no idea if this tech even exists but just humor me for a moment.
Say in the character creator, you have to (or voluntarily) install your own voice into your character. To do this, SE will have us read a paragraph for the software to accurately record our tone of voice, accent, mannerisms, and stuff like that. Then when in a CS with our character the software uses our vocal data to actually speak out what is written in the cutscene.

Again, dunno how much of this actually exists or is just in TV shows, would be kinda cool though. If it does exist, it's probably crazy expensive.

Maybe we should just talk to ourselves when our characters speak lol.

Probably expensive and doesn't work half good unless you read it the Lord of the Rings books, if my experience with voice recognition stuff has taught me.

Also, I'm a dude playing a catgirl. Unless there's some impressive vocoder stuff happening, that's going to be really unnerving.

Depends on whether you see the characters as characters or as an extension of yourself. I personally decided that if my taru in XI was to ever be voiced, I would accept none other than Yamaguchi Kappei.

Besides, character behavior and responses are dependent on whether we'd have varied dialogue choices to represent different moral standpoints and attitudes. That's where it would get real tricky and make the OP's request unlikely.

The funny thing is that female voices knocked down an octave or so can pass off as male. Male voices don't have that luxury because you go from male voice to squeaks very quickly.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

I don't want my character to sound like me. I do not have a Lalafell voice.

Like everything else, make it optional. If people want our characters to talk, turn on voices, if you want your character to be mute, turn of your voice.

Personal thing: Nah. If SE spend their budget for this game on voiceactors instead of development time, I'd be pretty annoyed. Also, it's personal but I hated the voiceacting in other recent FF titles.
