And FFXIV will forever be stained by the world and media, not what SE have in mind if going by that mind set of yours.
FFXIV will always be stained because of 1.0, not because of this "mindset", it won't recover what has been lost, it can only improve the image a bit but going far as ruining what made FFXI last so long (PVE) won't be as good as the profits being "standard (PVP/PVE)" will bring
i don't really care either way, i'll play ffxiv as i always did, i liked ffxiv before in 1.0 and i will like 2.0 just as much but people who push for changes just because of the stupid belief of "this game can't live without so&so" should really stay away

The problem with pvp is that there isn't a single mmo out that pvp hasn't caused detrimental changes to pve. Mmo forums are filled with after the fact apologies by devs who at first promised that pvp would have no impact.
XI has pvp yet tons of people have yet to flock to that game specifically for its pvp so those that say its a MUST are being a bit exaggerated in its importance. Yoshi may like pvp but he can't just slam it into the game and make it a pillar of the game without killing the pve that makes final fantasy what it is. We will get it but its not going to satisfy any "hardcore" pvpers in a way that they won't complain very vocally about.
Don't mind pvp but it has this nasty habit of feature creeps that end up ruining the pve. Worst part is that they don't seem to care about that and want shoulder in more pve changes for the sake of pvp.
Wait what? Why would anyone make PvP have no impact on the game? No matter what you introduce to the game it's going to have an impact. If you introduce something that has no impact, then why waste development time on it? And There's no game with effective PvP that didn't ruin PvE? Then what games are people playing RN? I know that the game I'm currently playing allows you to accept challenges from individuals and get winnings (or not if no wagers are placed) on a completely Open World basis and I think it's awesome. The entire ranking system is based on a running tally of who does better at the game... so even the PvE is PvP.
It seems like people are so scared that PvP will "nerf" and/or ruin PvE play. It's true that there are ways to do that, but the ways to avoid that are so obvious that you'd have to be a dummy to mess that up. (I'm looking at YOU, GW2) But since PvP has already been announced, then it's already impacting the game, and PvE is already being adapted to it. This ship has sailed, Silversnow.Don't mind pvp but it has this nasty habit of feature creeps that end up ruining the pve. Worst part is that they don't seem to care about that and want shoulder in more pve changes for the sake of pvp.
I would like it to be in the launch because that's where the game's ranking on the Non-FF sites comes from. The ranking doesn't come from patches... it comes from the launch. Once people see that FFXIV has no PvP at launch, the will ignore the game regardless of the other patches. I hope that Yoshi understands this now. People no longer follow FFXIV...
While the ship may have sailed it remains to be seen whether its going to slam itself into a reef or make it to its destination. So its not so black and white as that.
I wonder if that developer/translator uses every meme under the sun in his blogs to sound ironic, or if he learnt the english language on 4chan.
Couldn't they just apply a whole new formula to PvP calculations so it would have zero bearing on PvE? I'm sure if they're smart about it, they could figure a way to divide both aspects (PvE and PvP) so they operate in isolation from eachother.
That sounds kinda like what they had planned for PvP from the start (they even talked about different sets of abilities altogether), buuut then they went and dumbed down the combat system in favor of PvP, which they wouldn't have needed to do at all if they went with these "different sets of abilities" they talked about originally.
IDK what to believe any more. I just really, really, REALLY hope the combat system won't suck as much as I think it might thanks to a feature that really has no place in here imo. Sad thing is, it's not looking very bright out there so far. At least not from what we saw from the alpha.
Did they dumb down the combat "because of PvP" though? I think you might need to qualify that statement. It seems like a strange decision for them to make in the first place. I can understand them wanting to streamline it, but oversimplifying it would probably just make it equally as lame in PvP as it would in PvE. The fun factor of PvP more-or-less relies on the competition between participants. If it's "dumbed down" to the point where it's not skillful, then that decision could backfire on SE if in fact that was even their decision in the first place. That sounds kinda like what they had planned for PvP from the start (they even talked about different sets of abilities altogether), buuut then they went and dumbed down the combat system in favor of PvP, which they wouldn't have needed to do at all if they went with these "different sets of abilities" they talked about originally.

Not going to make any wild exaggerated speculations, or pass any dumb bias judgements.
A meaningful PvP system.
That is all I want.
