    ^ this

But I see what the OP means, earning things instead of just having you magically know them is more rewarding (not to mention prolongs content)

Most MMOs have you buying spells, or unlocking them through skill points.
XI is the only instance I've seen where you have to quest for spells.

That being said, I liked that aspect of it.

To be fair, the mm part of the "mmrpg" has nothing to do with questing for spells. And technically, the rpg doesn't have anything to do with it either. I can quote other mmo's and other ff games to back this up, but it'd just be a waste of time. I wouldn't mind as long as they don't make certain spells as cut-throat to get like utsusemi:ni is/was in ffxi. I do appreciate that we don't have to farm the same mobs for hours to get a spell though.

On second thought... don't we already have that? Blm's and Whm's need to quest to get regen and flare and stuff.

that was kind of fun to do.

travelling Far and wide across forrests & deserts in a 3 person group running into WTF mobs. its like going on a treasure hunt and actually finding it. !!

I don't remember HAVING to quest for spells in XI.

I remember making a tidy profit on farming Blizzaga III with my BST. @200-300k per it was a nice way to get merits.

Oooor, we could do it ffx or ffxiii style where you kinda allocate points to stuff on a grid, eventually reaching up to a new spell. Considering its an mmo we could make the points needed to get certain spells or go on certain skill paths really tough so people dont get everything and "customizing" your skill path becomes a thing. Also considering its an mmo and most pple would eventually end up going the "preferred" skill path, we could make the different ways to go have their own exclusive merits, making it very situational and debatable which to choose.
