[dev1032] An idea for dual wielding for Gladiator

I was thinking that beside the addition of two-handed swords as means to allow gladiators to become damage dealers in battle.. a dual wielding system could also be implemented..

    I will explain how..

Gladiators are normally able to equip shields on their off-hand thus making the "Sentinel" subclass available for shield skills and SP gain..
Now what I was thinking was to make the off-hand blade become a subclass much like "Sentinel".. an appropriate name could be "Swordmaster".. providing a separate SP gain, dual bladed skills and such..

    How does it sound..?

Almost all swords are currently flagged for use in the offhand... I think they had plans (at some point in time) to add dual-wielding for GLD.

There's also a skill specifically for dual wielding, Ambidexterity, in the game already. If you've ever tried to use it you know that it only works for shield skills and it is a total waste of time for how short it lasts, and you need to use 3 shield abilities before it runs out to even save any stamina at all. (well its currently broken and does nothing but if it worked thats what it would be like...)

Basically saying that it was planned to be used for dual-wielding from the get go but it could work with shields so they added it in. I think at one time they were planning to have the off hands have their own stamina bar but it got cut/removed I guess.

My guess is a dual wielding class will be more like the pug... it'll be new and the weapon they use will be a one slot item with identical weapons for each hand in that slot. I'm starting to doubt that the glad will be a dual wielder unless advanced classes come into the game and that is an option.

Pug's kinda already dual wield heh. But I think dual wield will be added at some point. You can see your swords as off hand equip options, but just cant do it.

My guess is that if they add dual-wield it will be in the form of a Ninja type class. Unlike XI where some weapons were able to be used by different classes, this game seems to not cater for that.

The original suggestion is pretty much how I'm thinking they will put it in. As others have stated all one-handed weapons are already flagged for the off-hand slot, it just doesn't let you do it yet.

All weapons also have a "Number of attacks" section as well, so maybe certain weapons will also add a multistrike effect as well?

Pugilist weapons already do this. You hit Heavy Strike one and you'll strike the monsters 2-4 times generally.

I don't really like the idea of adding dual wielding as a separate class that would work like sentinel. The reason is that with sentinel, you learn shield skills that are independent of whatever class you are pairing it with (aegis boon, guard, etc. don't require you to be a GLA, THM, etc. whoever can use a shield can use those skills.) But if you handled dual-wielding the same way, then you have a similar skill set that is going to be learned that is going to be common to all dual-wielders. Since I think different classes should be able to dual wield eventually, I rather them have their own dual-wield skills that they learn from the base class.

So that would mean that when they are ready to implement dual-wielding for gladiator, gladiator will gain certain abilities that they can equip to their action bar that requires an off-hand to be equipped. I think they should do the same thing by adding 2H swords and having skills that require a 2H to be equipped to use. This is in addition to the generic skills like say "Red Lotus" that could be used by 1H/Shield, 2H, or with OFF-hand.

Hopefully, they'll add 1H Axes this way too so a Marauder can choose between 2H, Dual, and 1H/Shield.
