Vanity slots & armor full sets

I have been playing a couple of old FF's while the servers have been down and it got me thinking a little bit about the unique armor & styles that each character in the FF series hold.

With the introduction to vanity slots, I think it would be nice to see more armor "skins" that have that FF feel. The fact that they would be skins or vanity items mean they would be cosmetic only, so you could wear full sets of armor that look a lot more like previous games.. In fact to make it even more iconic, they could be based completely on the sets in previous FF's.

These sets could be achievements, or rewards from chocobo racing, purchased with tokens from the golden saucer, or any sort of side quest / random event. They are more of an "extra" little icing on the cake.

For example I would like to see more styles such as:

Auron's red cloak (can be worn on melee jobs such as WAR and DRG)


Yuna's X-2 sexy set (imagine a Miqo'te wearing this !)


Tera's gear


I also can't mention this sort of thing without talking about Cloud's from advent children..


I do think it would be a nice touch to have full vanity sets based on previous iconic FF titles, and potentially original but with the FF flavour, as I do feel that a good chunk of the gear looks fairly "generic" aside from a few top tier peices.

It would be nice to have these special rewards. Although instead of direct copies, it would be better if the outfits were references to these characters with a bit of an Eorzean twist to them. So they don't look out of place, but you can still see the Iconicness in them.

Oh yes I probably didn't make that part clear... Seeing 2137891273 "Clouds" with different hairstyles, races and genders would look a bit dumb.

However having an XIV twist to the iconic styles would be a nice touch. The thing I like about FF outfits are how non-symmetrical they are most of the time. Once arm is showing, the other is covered by a sleeve. Unique "cloth" like material on one side of the outfit (such as Yuna's X-2 kit) etc...

Currently a lot of XIV gear is very "symmetrical" and although it may look good with a wider range of items, having a full vanity set for this kind of gear would just be a nice touch.

I'd prefer something original to FFXIV as far as a vanity set goes and not something from a previous game. And god forbid they ever get the idea to sell these as a microtransaction.

if it was from a previous ff everyone and their mothers would be using a cloud or auron skin. Imo vanity sets should just be simply aesthetic versions of armor sets that go on top of your real gear.

A few of the job AF costumes already nod to Yoshitaka Amano's past work. A majority (if not all) of what remains is designed by Akihiko Yoshida. Both of these artists are already established in contributing to "That FF Feel", especially in worlds that draw heavily from or allude to traditional, medieval Europe-based fantasy.

I'm going to assume that what you're aiming for are costumes designed by Tetsuya Nomura, whose contributions to the franchise tend to lean more toward futuristic, sci-fi-infused fantasy.

Given XIV's past and current design trends, I pray nightly that Nomura's aesthetics stay as far away from this game as possible.
