If FFXIV is out to prioritize cashing in on box sales they didn't learn anything from 1.0.

I'm pretty sure after all of this they are focused on putting out a game that people will think is worthy to subscribe to, something that takes a far greater commitment than "liking" on facebook. Or even buying a box at launch.

I think it would be a mistake to be trying to generate a huge amount of hype, when people following the game know it is too early, not enough has been proven about ARR to justify "hype". I'm super hyped about it because I played 1.0 and enjoyed it even most of the time, but I wouldn't sell it to a stranger based on that.

Square Enix needs to continue to demonstrate this game's worth, not hype it. Very little is known about TESO, just like very little of substance was known about SWTOR they were just hyped. SWTOR didn't back up that hype and had to go Free to Play, I don't think that is the path XIV wants to go down.
