I never had a problem with chatting. The problem is the people who are elitists who cry all the time on chat whenever a raid goes wrong, or cusses someone out for making a mistake, or rages t everyone because people are not "doing it right".

I have a great LS who raids a lot and does none of that. We are all super friendly with each other. But I think I was just lucky, lol. A lot of the raid groups I was in would insist on some form of chat, only because they wanted to be heard when they berated and insulted you and whined about how much everyone else sucked. Most of the people who insisted on voice chat were primed and ready to do just that. Luckily, my LS never insisted on it, and they were nice on voice chat. Strangely enough, we did awesome on group activities as well (farmed the crap out of the primals). I guess you just have to get lucky with the right guild/LS when it comes to voice chat.

LOL I hate that. It's a sure fire way to make sure nobody has fun. Crybabies and blame-gamers get the banhammer!
