    The Garlond Ironworks

I can't be alone in being extremely anxious to learn more about these guys, can I? Does anyone else feel the same way?

[Sort of spoilers below, I guess?]

I've personally be hoping and dreaming that they plan to use the Garlond Ironworks to introduce a class based around Gunblades and Garlean technology. Having it's class specific armor be garlean-esque in design. Add a feeling of fighting fire with fire into the potential war with Garlemald. Would be fun to have a melee/ranged hybrid class, too.

Either way, I just want to learn more about these guys. I mean, it seems like they're working with the Eorzeans and providing them with imperial technology. Anyone else catch any tidbits of information on them outside of the one quest that mentions them, and the "Garlond Goggles" that came with pre-ordering?

Nope your not alone, ive also been anxious to learn more about them :P
I like the idea of FFXIV having an enemy that has a higher form of technology, it makes it more interesting. I'd really like to see a steampunk type city in the Garlean area, it would be really cool to me, and ya a gunblade weilding class would definately get my vote

A thousand times this. I really like the "Magitek" genre that the recent final fantasy titles have had. I love the combination of magic and technology. I was disappointed that both MMORPGs followed the medieval-fantasy genre instead of steampunk-esque feeling of the later FF titles. Not that I have anything against the medieval genre, it's just a bit overdone for MMORPGs.

Combining both seems like a magic ticket, and I really hope they give us the option to get our hands on some of the more advanced technology that exists in Eorzea.

you must not have visited bastok. Bastok is FAR from medival. and ffxi isn't really medival. Last i checked.... excalibur wasn't a rifle. And king Arthur didn't use a gun. Honestly when I think steam punk I think of city of lost children its a french film with Ron perlman. (good movie)

Ya i prefer a mix of both medieval and technological stuff, its a good mix to me.
And by looking at them, Archanists seem to be like a science/technology based mage, which would be really cool, i look forward to seeing which way they go with that class and all other new classes to be added later.

I think FF mixes fantasy and technology like no other. FFVI comes to mind. It would be really interesting to see such a setting in a MMO, which the genre is lacking.

Like Endemerrin said, medieval fantasy is a bit too overdone. That's why the opening of FFXIV is so epic ;P that dreadnought is just awesome lol

Oh, I played FFXI for years. But Bastok has more of an 'Age of Industrialization' feel to it, not so much a steampunk/magitek feel. Nowhere near the type of technology the Garleans have displayed thus far.

Honestly, just by looking at their warships, one can only imagine how massive and intricate the capital of Garlemald must be. I'm betting the Emperor's palace would be quite the amazing sight.
