Question about Choosing a Guardian

So I've always had this question and I have never even had the urge to look it up or ask it in the forums till now. When 1.0 first Launch and we created a character, we also had to choose a guardian. I just went with whatever sounded cool "Azeyma The Warden". I really didn't pay any mind to what it was about nor was there any implications to what they do. When playing around in Alpha, I saw the Guardian thing was still there in the Character Creation ...

My question is: Do they serve a purpose ? If so, what ? && Is there going to be a purpose in A Realm Reborn ?

Only 'purpose' they served in 1.0 was when we prayed and got our rings from the different Twelve Tomestones. As for ARR we don't know yet.

Pretty sure this has been asked before, in pretty much the same exact wording....if I remember correctly a rep said it would be explained more in ARR or around the time ARR relaunched?

As far as 1.0 goes, I don't think it meant anything? Only thing that seemed to even be related to the guardian you chose then was if you killed Nael Darnus, you obtained a ring that was relative to your guardian.

Plus there was also that Guardian's Blessing buff in the early days of 1.0 that you could envoke when starting a levequest that was different depending on the guardian. But that was removed in a patch (I believe the /pray command replaced it?).

But yeah, I don't think there will be any real bearing on the game in ARR other than some minor story aspect as to your character's chosen deity - in 1.0 I just went with Azeyma for several reasons: She's the traditional guardian of the Seekers of the Sun miqo'te clan (which my character is a member of), plus Azeyma is the closest parallel to Altana from FFXI, who my FFXI character was a devoted follower of.

So I think it's just going to come down to which one you like the best.
