    relatively new thread, already 8 pages of crying and moaning. who's surprised?

    this is great for crafters, and really really great for the economy. anyone who doesn't realize how screwed up XIV's economy is/was needs a reality check. and this move would do quite a lot to solve it. oh, and everyone crying about it resembling WoW's system- first of all, WoW didn't invent the system. but every time wow USES a system it DIDN'T INVENT people still just fucking cry because it was in WoW. pathetic.

    not to mention wow had one of the most stable economies in any MMO ever made- which is all the more impressive considering the sheer volume of people taking part in it. and yet with just a few hundred dedicated players on each XIV server, the economies quickly spiraled out of control. inflation was rampant (even after the nerf to guildleve rewards), and to really make money you had to have a large amount of capital to play with in the first place. and yet you people want to keep that?

    you really don't care about this game succeeding, do you? all you care about is that it A. needs to be different from WoW (a game most of you never actually even played) and B. can't share any qualities with WoW (in spite of WoW not inventing the wheel)

    but ANYWAY...

    this is really only potentially bad for new players. hopefully they increase vendor gear options (and make them affordable) to compensate, as most crafters probably won't waste time selling lower level stuff. then again, considering the redesign of the quest system i'm sure they intend for people to get most of the gear they'll need for leveling through quest and dungeon rewards, and this will mostly just be an issue for higher level players to deal with. which would be perfectly fine.

    I personally like this idea as it controls the economy + helps the crafters.
    We still haven't seen the new materia system so we don't know how this will play out. As everything else mentioned about ARR by the reps I think it's best to try it out first then to give full on feedback good/bad to have it modified/changed/removed for the better.

    Seems most people who are complaining are the ones who want ff14 to be ff11 clone, I enjoyed ff11 at its prime, but honestly ff11 had a pretty screwed up economy as well. This system is a must as I stated before, if the game is to support a huge player base it has to have a stable economy.

    FFXI's economy is screwed up because they let chocobo blinkering slide for about 2.5 years. Chocobo binkering devauled gil so much and if you didn't do it you lost out on a lot of gil and probably find stuff in the game too expensive.

    13m for 1 umbra marrow, get the hell out of here that's just insane considering you need 5 per weapon.

    WoW's only economy is new gems w/e a new patch comes out. Crafting is virtually worthless excluding things like tailoring is a craft cloth users like priest is forced to level to add more gems to gear, blacksmithing for plate and so on. Im not saying gear binding is good or bad, I doubt it will change alot, I believe I dropped/spiritbonded the majority of my leveling gear in 1.0 because it wasnt worth the retainer space to sell, but I do think using WoW's economy as a defence is a bit off.

    Edit: The actual... I guess you might call it a bonus crafting gets from soulbinding in WoW, atleast the people selling the materials to level crafting, because every time a new character is made, they are forced to level 2 very specific crafts, so selling crafting materials really never died, but the crafting itself, as in when your done leveling the craft, theres nothing to really do with it.
