Yeah, it kinda sucks. I guess we'll be turning more melded item into materia.

But remember! They're making it so that converting enhanced and HQ items makes better materia!
I think this was how it was supposed to be in 1.0. Remember than when you sold or traded an item, the spiritbond would disappear. But the limitations of 1.0 wouldn't let it become ex, so that was the other fix they did to keep people from trading "bonded" items.
I do not like the idea that once you have melded equipment or got the spirit bond to 100% you can't trade it. Then a seemingly good piece of equipment literally becomes worthless. I hope this isn't the case at all. For me in 1.0 I was able to recycle everything i bought if i new i wasn't going to use it later, for instance i bought a helm and once i grew out of it i had the option to sell it back for what i paid for it which i loved doing. But if what i have been reading is true I'm going to have to be just converting it all to materia. And if everyone does this there will be a way over abundance of it and the materia wont sell. and if it does sell it will be so dirt cheap, way cheaper than what you actually got the original equipment for thus profits plummet.
Recyling is good for the enviroment, horrible for the economy... \o/ lolI do not like the idea that once you have melded equipment or got the spirit bond to 100% you can't trade it. Also materia can be taken from gear so its not 100% useless, though it is restrictive and while we havent tried it I can only assume will never make your money back on the piece.
Good economy isnt you keeping all your money and getting a large mass - like what happened in FFXIV, so :/ I know it sucks not being able to trade or make your money back but its actually better.
(But I like to make my money back, well then you didn't lose any and that is bad for economy - taxes being the only sink there).
People amassing large sums of money will back fire more then just not being able to freely trade. New person cant get free item from friend, but also items are not priced at 10000000000000X his limit because he came in 5 years late and everyone else has been cycling their cash and growing it at the same time.
I Agree it's a bad idea.
World of Warcraft is terrible. Jumping and controlling your character the same as WoW was plenty. Please stop building WoW 2.0. Blizzard has made the game too easy just so they keep subs from casuals.....
Not being able to sell your used double meld once you create a triple meld will make the RMT very happy^^
Bad idea, but we don't know all the details so maybe it isn't even something to worry about.
I will say this, I was planning on buying a new power supply and GTX 680 but now that I've read this I'm going to wait. I built my desktop for FFXIV. If SE makes WoW 2.0 I'm taking a trip to the pawn shop.
All work and no resale makes Fonzworth a dull boy!!!

and heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere we go again. shit like this is why i lose my patience so often in these forums. it gets to the point where i just get absolutely sick of repeating myself and can only do my absolute best to hold back from just telling people they're drooling idiots then calling it a day.
but just in case-
WoW DIDN'T INVENT BoP/BoE. STOP USING THIS BULLSHIT ARGUMENT AGAINST A SYSTEM SIMPLY BECAUSE WoW USED IT AND YOU RETAIN AN INCREDIBLY LARGE NEGATIVE BIAS TOWARD THE GAME ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY DUE TO NAME ALONE.
if this is your attitude, if this is all you have to contribute to the community- just sell your PC right now. get rid of it. never log in again. you won't be missed.
some people actually want this game to not only succeed, but be the best MMO in the world- and we understand that in order to pull that off we need to turn over and examine not only new ideas, but to revisit ideas that have been in place SINCE LONG BEFORE WoW. we don't just IMMEDIATELY SEE RED the instant those three little letters are typed or referenced.
reeeeeeeeer reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer wow suxxxxxxxxx reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer
realize you are in an incredibly small minority. realize if SE is to listen to you, their game will cater to an incredibly small minority. and realize if their game only appeals to an incredibly small minority, the damage done to the brand's name will not be recovered, they will not regain the faith of their market, and once FFXI dies they likely will never bother with MMOs again. which defeats THE ENTIRE PURPOSE of them redesigning the game from the ground up.
i wish terrible, awful things upon you and your ilk for throwing your irrational anti-wow feces all over threads that could otherwise be perfectly constructive and helpful to the devs.
Does it really matter whether WoW invented something or not? if is something that the community doesn't like, does it really matter who invented what? There are plenty arguments in favor and against binding equipment. It doesn't really matter who invented what system.and heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere we go again. shit like this is why i lose my patience so often in these forums. it gets to the point where i just get absolutely sick of repeating myself and can only do my absolute best to hold back from just telling people they're drooling idiots then calling it a day.

If the system is not welcome (mind you, we have to wait to really see how SE is implementing it to judge it) people have a right to express their opinions. Something call "Freedom of Speech" in the U.S.
There are people who don't like binding equipment and others who do like it. These forums are a venue for both sides to make an argument for or against the new system and in a way try to influence SE to keep or not keep binding.

why are you asking me? you should be asking the people who stupidily ASSUME WoW invented the system and attack WoW specifically and exclusively as a result. you're barking up the wrong tree with this argument.
by 'community' you mean a large (overly vocal) minority who would prefer another niche title and systems which come with the territory of a niche title to a healthy, commercially successful title (which is what the devs have stated outright they are trying to achieve) and the systems which come with the territory of that?
and seriously, stop using the 'we' fallacy. i see enough of that shit with fox news playing the "americans think..." card as if the only people who are americans are the ones who agree with their politics. playing the "the community thinks..." card is no better. and if you actually take a minute to REALLY LOOK AROUND, you'll see more than enough evidence that the community, as a whole, does not think that way at all.
then i ask again- why crucify WoW? what service does it do to the argument? answer: none.
and i have a right to point out how awful their argument is and/or tell them they are blithering idiots. i'd say we're even.
And here you are inserting politics to make your argument seem relevant... a counter argument by saying nothing.why are you asking me? you should be asking the people who stupidily ASSUME WoW invented the system and attack WoW specifically and exclusively as a result. you're barking up the wrong tree with this argument.

You came to this thread to contribute nothing, but insults. YOU don't even come up with an argument for which side you are for... no, you came to this forum with the intention to provoke.
Thank you for your contribution. It was very insightful.

page 9. what now?relatively new thread, already 8 pages of crying and moaning. who's surprised?
this is great for crafters, and really really great for the economy. anyone who doesn't realize how screwed up XIV's economy is/was needs a reality check. and this move would do quite a lot to solve it. oh, and everyone crying about it resembling WoW's system- first of all, WoW didn't invent the system. but every time wow USES a system it DIDN'T INVENT people still just fucking cry because it was in WoW. pathetic.
not to mention wow had one of the most stable economies in any MMO ever made- which is all the more impressive considering the sheer volume of people taking part in it. and yet with just a few hundred dedicated players on each XIV server, the economies quickly spiraled out of control. inflation was rampant (even after the nerf to guildleve rewards), and to really make money you had to have a large amount of capital to play with in the first place. and yet you people want to keep that?
you really don't care about this game succeeding, do you? all you care about is that it A. needs to be different from WoW (a game most of you never actually even played) and B. can't share any qualities with WoW (in spite of WoW not inventing the wheel)
but ANYWAY...
this is really only potentially bad for new players. hopefully they increase vendor gear options (and make them affordable) to compensate, as most crafters probably won't waste time selling lower level stuff. then again, considering the redesign of the quest system i'm sure they intend for people to get most of the gear they'll need for leveling through quest and dungeon rewards, and this will mostly just be an issue for higher level players to deal with. which would be perfectly fine.
i contributed, commenting on overwhelming amount of anti-WoW bias/rhetoric, then stepped out for a while. i came back only to see page after page of the same anti-WoW bias/rhetoric still being spewed about with abandon. i commented on it.
and what of your contribution?
so there's that.
