Seems like instead of gear, the market will be flooded with materia instead. From http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post956357
This is news to me - or I just haven't been paying attention. Spiritbonding aside, I read this as any equipment that you've used ... at all... cannot be sold or traded. I'm not sure what to think about this. On the one hand, no more worrying about having to repair items to 100% in order to trade or sell because -- well you can't! On the other hand, it sort of sucks to not be able to lend gear to people in your Linkshell or other friends or hand me down gear your done with. Many times while leveling my items might not be spiritbound to 100% before I am upgrading to a new piece of equipment. So then what? Just toss it I guess?
Not really liking this change. Great for crafters though.

Convert to meteria.
What bothers many I know is you can't sell used multi-melds when you upgrade.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I took "1 spiritbond point" to mean "100% spiritbond", as in you can keep using the weapon to improve the spiritbond further, and possibly get better materia from it later. Or maybe spiritbond points apply a small buff to the weapon to keep it relevant if a player doesn't want to trade it away for aesthetic purposes. Or something.
It seems hard to believe that they'd make it so you can't trade away a weapon if you use it at all. That sounds like something that would obliterate the trade of anything except consumables and crafting ingredients.

Craft/buy gear.
Earn 1 exp.
It is now untradeable.

Biggest problem with this to me is the immediate loss of all value once the item has been bound to the character. If you spent 5M to purchase the item, and it's now bound. It is worth nothing if you can't desynth it. This is incredibly discouraging when it comes to multi-melding and buying items from other players. If anything it makes me want to just sell items, and farm/synth my own items. I can definitely see the crafter argument side of this, but at the same time I don't like it.

So ARR will get soulbinding?
This is such a bad idea. Why restrict players in such a way?
So i crafted or bought some item and used it for some time and have to throw it away when i don't need it anymore? Why am not allowed to sell it to some other player? Or give it to a friend?
I get it this game has Crafters as Classes so there will be a lot of items in the market.
But why not add more options to remove items from the game rather then restrict the options even further? We already have Rare/Ex.
Don't we have Great Company supplies?
They could add Quests where you have to trade old items for other stuff like shards or Special points which you can use for something.
But people with good items they that don't need any longer should have the chance to sell their items to other players or give them to some friend.
Don't we also get something like a Chest where people from free companies can share items? Soulbinding will make this useless as well.

Bound gear is usually vendored (thus effectively removed from the economy) or sharded (via reverse engineering, de-synth, disenchanting). I guess this is more a way to prevent market saturation, which does happen in games with unrestricted resale.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

Yeah, it kinda sucks. I guess we'll be turning more melded item into materia.

But remember! They're making it so that converting enhanced and HQ items makes better materia!
I think this was how it was supposed to be in 1.0. Remember than when you sold or traded an item, the spiritbond would disappear. But the limitations of 1.0 wouldn't let it become ex, so that was the other fix they did to keep people from trading "bonded" items.
