    When I've done testing for games design in the past, you can hook up machines, watch facial expressions etc.
    But the one thing that has always proved to be the best solution is:

    "Just ask them..."

    Seriously, the usually give a simple, honest and truthful answer. If there is something they don't like they'll just tell you.

    Mind reading just seems a bit too far....
