I see it going a few ways. My first thought was Musketeer to Gunner. Gunners do DD from afar and specialize in physical debuffs. They have a very far range and high accuracy (especially with buffing skills), but don't do as much damage. You can get a much more consistent rate of damage from them than an archer/bard.

Notable "gunners" from past games: Vincent and Barret (ffvii), Irvine (ffviii), Yuna (ffx-2 she was a gunner on the cover), it was a special class for moogles in FFTA (my favorite OP class from that game. Dat Ultima attack!)

My other idea is Pirates. A lot of the LL residents seem to be pirates or sailors, and that seems to be a major part of the culture there. It would probably involve more sneaky tactics (to replace the thief) including the steal ability, high evasion, and a major advantage when attacking from behind (many skill chains are based on back attacks).

Some notable Pirates that wield guns: Balthier (ffxii) was a Sky Pirate who wielded a gun... Jack Sparrow wielded a gun in Pirates of the Caribbean... that's all I can think of honestly.

I would love to see Musketeer get RDM as the job and have dual wielding pistols! I'd also be ok with gunblade seeing how RDM's use swords anyways

I dont know if its some quirk of me but I love metamorphisis abilities - and a class that somehow had chaos materia like Vincent (turning into a monster) would be freaking awesome..

    Shadow hearts <3

Its also Interesting to note that a gunner class / better name for job would be very possible because we have Garlean tech which is pretty awesome - Barret chain gun kind of stuff (minus cutting the hand off).

Because the musketeers are within Limsa and Limsa is a pirate / pirate like nation Corsair just really rings nicely to that.

Far as I can see Corsair would probably make the most sense in keeping in line with Limsa's lore, though I wouldn't discount RDM as an option either due to their affinity to Musketeers skills from history (and FFS Musketeers used both swords and pistols/rifles don't pigeonhole it into another "The Three Musketeers" argument).

BRD is in a good place IMO. While the arguments of making it go more into a full time musician might perk players interests, I just don't see it as beneficial to the job for several reasons. Not that I don't think someone wouldn't enjoy being a full time nancy boy, dressed like peter pan in tights while singing "It's Raining Men", but if anything over the course of FF history has taught us Bard in itself has serious limitations just being a singer with weak-no DPS, low hp, low defense, inaccurate debuffs, and limited buffing capability (where they can only use one or two buffs at a time). Even in turned based games FF Bards have had a seriously disappointing streak, and I'd actually consider FFXIV's BRD to be top-tier in retrospect.

Oh we went through that already in another thread:

    - Corsair
    - Sky pirate storyline
    - epic fights on airships
    - Gunblade (with emphasis still on ranged attack)

I'd rather see Musketeer be the job.

    We don't need copy/paste 11.

We do need information on the game, though.

OK. No need to get personal. My example of Archers to Bards isn't even what this thread should be about. I pointed it out because it is not a traditional Final Fantasy job progression, and so it is possible that Producer/Director Yoshida could take Musketeer in a non-traditional Final Fantasy direction. That's all I was trying to convey.

But, since you brought it up ...

Ultima Online didn't have classes as much as it had templates, and there was no "Bard" template. Any character could develop musicianship. In that way, Samurai could be minstrels, and Necromancers could be troubadours. Since any template could pick up any skill and combine them in any way, Ultima Online is not the best MMORPG to carry your point.

Ragnarok Online is a better choice to carry the weight of your argument, as it is more Final Fantasy-like in how it approaches classes. You make a good point there.

D&D has continuously evolved for over 35 years. Bard started out as a class you could only get once you played as a Fighter, and then as a Thief. Once you did those, you could become a Bard. In 2nd Edition, Bard became a starting class, no longer requiring you to be a Fighter and Thief first, and they could cast magic. 3rd Edition increased their magical chops by allowing them to cast in armor and giving them unique spells. 4th Edition I don't know about because I stopped playing table-top D&D just before it came out, but I hear that it is pretty darn different.

Anyway, I see your point on RO and agree that they made Archer into Bard. The other cases you brought up, not so much. In any case, those were not Final Fantasy.

But if you (or anyone) can bring up an instance in a Final Fantasy game that had Archer become Bard, I will happily concede the point.

I'm pretty sure arcanist is going to be enfeeb/DoT ^^ + carby (tank/mage)

It would be cool to get some elemental shots though. It would be nice to have a heavy DD ranged class. And it and BRD could both have a place in the same party.

I think going off the limsa motif that musketeer would have corsair as a job. I love the idea of getting dual pistols for the advanced job, that would be sweet!

I remember them mentioning that they want to give people more reasons to use Class over Job (because in 1.0, most people didn't really see the point once they unlocked the job.) I think that if the advanced job is Ranger, it would be too similar to the class, where if Corsair was the job then they could give it something more specialized.

having Musketeer as a class is much more possible than have it as a job.
    1. Each class has a guild, jobs don't have guilds (because a job is part of the class, not something independent)
    2. In Limsa Lominsa is a Musketeer guild

With some luck we can in the near future shoot like Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn ^^

Most likely Corsair would follow Musketeer, but I would like to see a Sharpshooter class like Irving from FFVIII
