As mentioned in the Producer Letter, the first phase of the Beta Test will take place in Gridania, and as such will only include the classes that have guilds found within Gridania.

That said, please remember that the Alpha Tester non-disclosure agreement is still in effect, so please refrain from discussion Alpha-related content.

Update: While normally you would only be able to play as the classes available in Gridania, please note that as a special exception during Beta Test phase 1 & 2, players will be able to complete specific objectives to unlock the gladiator class. (Updated Feb 9, 10:20am PST)

nice to know this and its really cool since now i don't have to wait until later phases to use gla. I love tanking and love gla along with it.

Nice to have confirmation. That is incredibly disappointing news, though. Was hoping to finally get a glimpse of the actual battle system with group dynamics, etc.. but that won't be possible without a tank class available.

I'm hoping that when the other classes are available, dungeons will actually require more from the players than to be clearable without a tank, for instance. Maybe I'm asking for too much..

Still looking forward to seeing the FATE system and other aspects of the beta test, though.

Phase 1 isn't really about that anyways. But it would have been nice to have a tank sure. Suppose LNC will have to do
Phase 1 wont last long enough, and servers wont be up long enough for many people to cap. And GLD isn't really that good a tank early on anyways. It wont matter until phase 3, when we can import paladins and such; if there's even any 35+ instances/fates to do where a pala would be needed.
