You bring up quite a bit of good points there, Dragonheart. A few I never even considered before. I totally agree with having PVP ready at launch for the reasons you mentioned. If the game doesn't have PVP at launch it could hurt the game's initial launch and subsequently have a detrimental affect on overall sales. Just as you state, reviewers and websites will probably be critical of the game for that reason, and that reason alone. As silly as it may seem to most of US that follow the game, or maybe don't care for PVP much, or that played 1.0 that didn't have it.....trying to attract as many players as you can to your new shiny MMO has to have it all.....and ALL at launch.

There are still people out there that have NO IDEA that ARR is coming out. There are still people out there that have NO IDEA that 1.0 was fixed, that there's a new dev team and they rebuilt the whole game from scratch. This needs to be taken into account when deciding what to include in the "final version". Because a potential mmo player may have interest in ARR after hearing about it, read a review of the game and say "pfftt ...it doesn't have PVP?? Looks like they never fixed FFXIV like they said they were going to". Let me remind you that there are people out there that have no idea FFXIV was remade at all, and I'm sure those people wouldn't know, that if PVP isn't included at launch...... that it'll be added in a later patch.....they'll just assume if it's not there, the game doesn't have it period....and go somewhere else. There goes a potential customer...

Now granted for most of us....maybe the point I bring up is 0.0 but there are people out there that would be comfortable enough with a new MMO if it offered similar things like PVP. It could make their transition-from a game they've been playing for years that offered this kind of content-much easier and makes them feel more at home, so to speak.

I'm just concerned about this issue because ARR needs a successful and profitable launch. A nice jolt in sales and subs to make up for what they lost....and also so we can have a future with ARR.

Yeah you guys actually make a good point. I myself am not big into PvP (yet..) but as ARR has been designed to the standard hoping to attract a wider playerbase than XI ever did, they kinda forgot that PvP these days is 'standard'. If/When it launches without PvP, an entire population of players who are major fans of PvP will have an incomplete game. Given that this is already XIV's second launch, I'm not sure they're going to want to hear "it's coming soon(ish)". I know 1.0players and XI fans wouldn't mind, but that large population of gamers that SE is targeting may have some issues. Too many other standardized MMOs out there already that have included all the basics.

I'd rather SE hold out on launch, maybe extend the Beta, and release this game at least at the 'standard' they've been clamoring about this whole time.

I'm glad that someone understand exactly what I mean (even with my crappy english :/ ) .

As you said releasing a game without PvP or other "interesting" (and i didn't say innovative this time) content will be a commercial suicide. For me, you , and the others that played the crappy 1.0, a thing like PvP isn't an important thing. But for returning players, new players coming from others mmo (that of course have PvP ...) , critics like journalist and sites it's a MUST.

So if housing, PvP, and other things requires 1-2 or even 3 months more of develpoment it's better that the game will be delayed. Releasing a complete game under every aspect is not an option for an MMO. (Even GW2 that i think is one of the most complete game at his release, received many critics, ... just imagine a new game in 2013 without PvP)

No MMORPG to date has ever launched with every feature that every other MMORPG had at the same time as the launch. It would be a fools errand for any game development company to even try. Features have to be prioritized, and strangely enough, this community told SE what the priorities were in our responses to the Player Polls (see links below).

    First Player Poll Results
    Second Player Poll Results
    Third Player Poll Results

As you can see, PVP ranked either last or second to last in OUR priority (it never breaks out of single digits). Now, that doesn't mean that SE is not putting any PVP in the game ... it just means they are going to work at getting the stuff we said is REALLY important right and in at launch.

Character Development, Content, Graphics, Combat, User Interface, Economics.

Those are what reviewers are going to look at to determine if FFXIV:ARR is going to be great. If all of those are as good or better than the current MMORPG line up, they will easily forgive that you don't get to build a house, or kill your fellow adventures, or have flying mounts right at launch ... especially if you you have things like Gold Saucer and Crystal Tower at launch.

FF MMO players have pretty much bought this game already at this point.

I think Dragonheart is referring to attracting and retaining the attention of all the other MMO players out there who look for PvP in a game, not to mention those who buy off of non-FF blogs, websites who will rate the lack of PvP as a Minus on their scorecards.

    Fair enough.

My question to you then is this. If FFXIV:ARR gains and keeps all the FFXI and FFXIV 1.0 players that ever played as paying subscribers, would you consider it a success?
