In the end, if there are too many bugs, if some features aren't thoroughly tested by the projected launch time then launch should be delayed. If features aren't ready to be tested until phase 4 and they need more time for it to cook, launch should be delayed. FFXIV already has a stigma attached to it. Some folk will always brand this game as a failure. But that doesn't mean that we should give them a reason to!

I'm quite sure they got it covered; included in Roadmap. We're already looking at up to 5 months of beta, and i think that's worst case scenario, with many bugs to fix etc included. They know very well that if they need to delay game longer than that, people gonna whine about it.
Personally i'm not worried at all; from what i've seen of alpha, it was already miles better than 1.0 It's only gotten better, and will only get better still. Only thing that would worry me is if someone finds and use dupe exploits or such in phase 4. But as long as it's resolved during beta, it's all good. Any minor stuff like terrain bugs, skill balance, shouldn't delay release.

I think people expected too much from the beginning. A lot of the features they mentioned were not entirely intended to be totally completed at launch. Be thankful you are even getting Free Companies at launch as if I remember correctly, Yoshi said in one of the very early letters (when he described Free companies in a bit more detail) that they won't be ready at launch.. (or from what I remember)..

Think of 2.0 as a re-release of 1.0 with some extra content, reworked game mechanics and reworked graphic engine. I think the checklist for a lot of people in here, along with their expectations on the release is "too damn high".

Save you final comments for beta. If you hate it, then that's when you can voice it. Complaining about it now won't get you any more information then you have access to already.

I just can't "be grateful" for what we're getting, what kind of attitude is that? It just means that we're not getting what we really want out of the game.

ofc we want all those stuff too But we already know they cant launch with everything they planned; that would take another year probably. So it's a matter of priority.
It's the case with all MMOs, that there's always coming new content, and it will be the same for ARR. So i'm wondering when will you be satisfied? or will you always be a step ahead, asking for more?

OP is right we need more info! In comparison before guild wars 2 came out I could read detailed Dev blog post explaining the intended mechanics, ethos & direction of the game, they even have manifesto video explaining things and giving a good overview of of the game, now after the initial debacle and backslash during Tanaka's reign SE have made a conscious effort to connect more with the community and present more information and I commend them for that, however i still feel we are not being given enough information which is disappointing and more then slightly worrying.

One other thing people have to consider is the perspective of the "new player" in regards to this game. As 1.0 player I feel I have a link to more information outlets then new player would and yet a still starved of much of the "meaningful" information I would like to see. As a 1.0 player I can appreciate the screenshots and fun blog post but I feel as though this things are far less impressive to the uninitiated (which SE wants to attract). It is disconcerting to know less about a reboot of a game you played for a couple years then you did about completely new title.

Having said all that I know Yoshi P is gearing up for the media tour and also preparing a commentary video and with us being so close to the beta it is almost redundant to complain about such things but for the future of this game I think it would benefit SE more if they were far less conservative with the details they give out and generate and greater anticipation (among other things) for the game.

I want really to see if the new interviews coming soon, will have a couple of new informations...
