    Gameplay Commentary Video

Hello! I have a suggestion that I feel would help attract new players, inform old players, and basically just help with the marketing of this game.

FFXIV being a Japanese game, we don't see many videos with English commentary, although we do have Dev Videos with translation, the videos aren't the polished things that other gaming companies put out.

SE has just recently within the last few years jumped on YouTube, which is great, it's great to see videos showcasing new patches etc. Let's take it a step further!

    For instance:
    Elder Scrolls Online Gameplay Trailer:

    SWTOR Patch "Developer's Dispatch"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkUIjBK9veo

If we get videos like this up for FFXIV by the localization team, I think it would give prospective buyers a better glimpse at what FFXIV is, what the content is and some insight on what the developers are doing.

    Imagine:

    FFXIV Gameplay Trailer:
(What we currently have is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N4G854ANo0 a speechless screen capture of gameplay which is what the majority of the XIV videos are)

What if it starts out with Yoshi-P and subtitles or a dev from the US speaking about XIV.

    "A realm reborn takes place..."

    Video footage of 2.0

"What we're really excited about is our new FATE system where players can..."

    Gameplay video of FATE

Another dev: "The job system in XIV returns with the core lineup of..."

"Players who enjoy to tank should play..."

Another dev: "What we are seeing here is a skillchain, basically how it works is.."

What i'm trying to say is that give us videos that every other company puts out, that basically explain the game, and not just clips over and over. XIV's team has done a great job with Dev Blogs and forum community feedback, but that's only scratching the surface and probably only reaches mostly current players. New players, prospective buyers are going to go to youtube and search "FFXIV" and try to get some info about it.

    Patch trailers:
    Garuda Weapons Trailer:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tzqy_KL0hs

While this is neat, it's not "Oh cool, i'm so excited for this patch!"

I cringe to post this, but here is a really old patch trailer from WoW (WoW is just a game I could never get into :/)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE1TGCw2k6g

SWTOR non dev speaking patch trailer:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdTpIfDWyr4

What they did here and what they did in the SWTOR trailer above was created hype and interest for the upcoming patch. This is a GREAT service to subscribers and prospective players.

    Imagine:
    "Final 1.0 Patch Trailer"

Shows Dalamud slowly falling, cuts to the different towns, all the npcs looking up.

Dev: "In patch 1.x, Eorzea is toast. It's finally happened, but maybe the prayers of the players could stop it?"

Dev2: "In 1.x we've introduced the very feared Atomos. Players can check Aether crystals and battle the beast for some pretty apocalyptic rewards."

Videos of Atomos and fiends spawning fighting players.

Or even just a trailer like the "End of an Era" for new and big patches

If I had access to enough footage and information I would LOVE to work on the team that makes these and even commentate. Anyways I hope someone see's this and a light bulb clicks on. Dev team is doing great so far, but we can expand and upgrade old methods for sure! Let's create buzz and interest for all prospective players!

Remember that video in 2010 that had the two people pretending to be on a secret mission going over the character creation at TGS?

Don't do that again. I shudder thinking about it.

And play I did, in the sound studio as Yoshi-P and Murouchi/Foxclon/Morbol of Community & Services were recording the first Developers' Commentary video.
