Quick Poll on Microphones

Had a discussion with a friend about how many people actually use a microphone and talk to their linkshell and not just real-life friends. Actually talk to somewhat of strangers.

It's no secret that players in FFXI(In its prime) did not use microphones as much as players do in other games. At least that is how I perceived it, it seemed as tho hardly anyone used a mic in FFXI yet almost everyone used a microphone in vanguard, wow, warhammer, aion, rift etc. I'm curious if the FFXIV community is closer to pretty much everyone using a microphone. Or if it is still closer to hardly anyone like FFXI. From what I saw in 1.0, it seemed about somewhere in between.


Like this post if you have a microphone and use it to talk to your linkshell and/or people you do not know in FFXIV a majority of the time you are on the game. This includes people who prefer to talk on mic but do not have a linkshell that does.

Like this post if you do not talk to people from your linkshell and other players in FFXIV with a microphone. This includes people who have gotten on mic but prefer not to and hardly ever do.

Do it all the time in Mumble. Other than calling them by their game name, conversations are usually random things besides XIV.

It's rare I get on any kind of voice chat. I don't mind proving I'm a woman if that ever comes into question, but totally not cool with being forced onto voice chat all the time just so I can listen to someone drop F-bombs every 5 minutes about how unfair the game is, totally not my cup of tea D:.

Text chat is just so much more relaxed for me, kinda like interaction is on my terms and I'm not forced into having a conversation with people I hardly know.

...Unless it's Vil, I'll totally get on voice chat for you anyday haha

Yep, my linkshell does it all the time. We always talk to each other.

Are people that naive to think voice chat proves anything? Voice changers these days are superb! <Insert Manti Teo reference here> XD. Ya, I can't stand people that whine and bitch about the game or anything for that matter constantly I shut them up real quick. The f-bombs tho, well, thats sort of my specialty >_<!

My main LS avoided using mics, but another LS I was a part of for a while back around 1.19 was pretty big on using Mumble, soooo I guess I could go either way and am therefore refusing to vote!

heck yeah, this makes gaming way more fun but only when it's with a purpose, such as coordinating events, just hopping on to chat for no reason can get awkward

I love voice chat. Typing in the middle of combat is awkward at best, and easy to miss. Voice chat allows much smoother communication. Also it's easier to appreciate who your companions are when you can hear them talk, I connect with my ls mates much easier if we can converse via voice chat.

I can certainly appreciate where Nix is coming from, but this isn't xbox live, I don't know anyone in my linkshell who uses the f-bomb for punctuation, and if I did, I'd probably not be interested in playing with them voice chat or no.
